Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Where it all started

Today is the year 2025. Five hundred years ago, a disaster struck the entire world. Meteorites began to fall from the sky, turning the world into a massive apocalypse.

These meteorites brought beasts and monsters that are tall as the mountains. With just a single breath of fire, entire cities were engulfed in flames.

Humans had nothing to fight against these powerful beasts. They were merely humans with weak strength, and technology was not yet advanced.

Then, humanity was shocked when a figure with pointed ears resembling an elf and another humanoid being with animal-like ears appeared.

They saved humanity using magic and superpowers that left the humans in shock.

This was the first time other races had ever appeared.

Following the arrival of the Elves and Beastmen came the Dragonians, Demons, Angels, and more.

Everything felt as if the world had become a fantasy realm. They actually exist but was just hiding.

With the combined efforts of all races, they managed to occupy half of the world, while the other half remained inhabited by beasts.

Then a powerful organization known as the Covenant Alliance was formed by all races to protect the remaining lives and reclaim the land that once belonged to them.

Every team and group were dispatched to the lands ruled by the beasts, but no one could match their strength, forcing them to remain passive.

Humans were considered the weakest among all races, having been suddenly exposed to the apocalypse.

After five hundred years of guidance from the other races, humanity finally produced its own warriors.

But even after training and working together for over five hundred years, nothing changed at all, in fact, it only got worse.

Five centuries passed, and with each century, five percent of the land was slowly engulfed by monsters.

Now, only 25% percent of the land remains.

Located near the mountains, there is a large orphanage that shelters all the children who lost their families because of the apocalypse.

In a large playground just behind the orphanage, spanning about five hundred square meters, protective walls surrounded the area.

Many children were playing tag while others played catch. On the side near the wall, a diamond mesh fence stood tall, with barbed wire above it to keep wandering beasts away.

There was a young teen around fourteen years old. He had short black hair and a handsome face. He sat on the ground with his back leaning against a tree near the wall.

He watched the kids playing, his gaze lost in deep thought, when suddenly someone sat beside him.

He flinched for a moment and turned to see who it was. It was a girl with glowing golden hair, bright eyes, and a beautiful, goddess-like face.

She smiled at him as she hugged his arm, "Hey Damien, why are you here again? Don't tell me you had another bad dream?" she asked softly.

Damien, the name of the young teenager, offered a small smile.

"Yeah, even though it happened years ago, I still can't forget it," he responded.

With a sigh, he looked down. The nightmares he sometimes had were memories of the time when his parents died, rather the time where he lost them.

His parents were both awakened persons.

When he was eight years old, he clearly remembered how strong his father was, he saw a beast twice the size of a man explodes from a single punch.

His mother was just as remarkable. She was known as a Gear Binder master, capable of creating powerful scrolls and inscription runes.

During a disaster that struck six years ago, the land collapsed, towering buildings were destroyed, and people were killed like crops being plucked from the field.

He was at home when a beast resembling a dragon smashed through their roof.

He could still clearly remember how he was frozen in place, paralyzed by the glowing red eyes of the creature.

As the beast opened its massive mouth and fire began to gather inside, just as it was about to unleash its breath, a sword flew through the air and pierced its head.

A graceful woman with blue hair appeared as she stepped into the room.

"Honey, are you okay?" she asked with deep concern as she rushed to embrace him.

It was a feeling he could never forget which is his mother's last hug.

That was also the moment his father arrived. Just his presence alone and the aura he radiated were overwhelmingly powerful.

More of those flying creatures circled in the air, their eyes locked onto the three of them.

His father's gaze turned to his mother, filled with killing intent as he prepared for the battle ahead.

"Take our son and flee from here," his father said firmly.

"No, what about you? You can't handle everything alone," his mother, Lilia Valenor, retorted.

"Lilia, now is not the time to be emotional," his father replied, his voice calm but heavy.

Damien stood there, still frozen in fear, unable to move or even speak.

"No, I will not leave. Do you know why we joined the alliance and became warriors? It was to become strong and protect others. If I leave now, you won't have any chance to stop this," she replied as she tightened her hug around her son, Damien.

Magnus sighed, knowing she was right, "Then use the scroll to send our son somewhere safe," he said.

Lilia hesitated, her heart was heavy with the painful truth that she might never see her son again.

She removed her necklace and gently placed it around Damien's neck.

"Honey, be a good boy, okay? This is the duty of your mother and father. If we run, more people will die. It's not that we don't love you, it's just that we have no choice," she said as tears slid down her cheeks.

Damien heard every word. He cried and tried to stop his mother from leaving him, but before he could move, she gently pointed a finger at his forehead.

"Sleep," his mother whispered.

As his consciousness grew blurry and sleep overtook him, he heard his mother's voice one last time.

"Take care of the necklace, okay. That's a gift from me and your father."

He caught a final glimpse of half her face through teary eyes before everything faded to black.

Lilia then activated the scroll, and a bright light engulfed Damien. In an instant, he disappeared from the room.

"Shall we begin?" Magnus asked, turning to his wife with a faint smile.

"That was your last goodbye to your son, and you didn't even look at him properly," she scolded.

Magnus simply smiled and replied, "That's because I want him to remember my cool side. If I looked back now, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to stop myself from crying and that would be embarrassing."

"Hmph, excuses," Lilia muttered.

"Let's finish this quickly and help the others to evacuate the citizens."

Then a staff with a glowing blue orb appeared in her hands as she stepped forward, ready for battle.

It glowed with a gentle, radiant power it was calm and deep like the ocean. The atmosphere shifted, turning still and quiet for a moment.

With that, the two leapt into action and began fighting the beasts. The city was in chaos as other awakeners battled fiercely, slaying as many monsters as they could.

Then, an Overlord appeared it was a towering beast with two massive legs and a monstrous presence.

It was as tall as the Eiffel Tower, resembling something out of a nightmare, it's like a living Godzilla.

With a single roar, a shockwave erupted and destroyed everything within a 10-kilometer radius. The flames scattered across the city were instantly extinguished.

Then, without warning, a powerful red light burst forth from below, vaporizing the earth beneath it and making the very air tremble from its overwhelming force.

It was a massive slash, arching through the sky. It was ten meters wide and struck the beast's head, slicing it cleanly in two, finally ending the disaster that had been classified as a Country-Level Threat.

Many citizens lost their lives, and even with just one Overlord Beast, countless powerful warriors had to sacrifice themselves to save others.

Humanity's hope slowly faded as time passed. It felt as if there would never be an end to this nightmare.
