Alaric and the rat were in the bed and slept through the whole day, they were extremely hungry.
(Morning comes)
"Alright, I'm feeling better now." Alaric said out loud to himself. It still hurt, but it didn't hurt enough for Alaric not to be able to function.
"I'm hungry as hell..." Alaric thought.
"You should be too..." Alaric looked for the rat to talk to.
But the rat wasn't there.
Alaric started looking around the small room for the rat.
"You here man?" Alaric called out.
Chirp Chirp
The rat was in the room definitely.
Alaric then soon found the rat.
"God, don't eat that...." Alaric said.
The rat was eating the strange evil fish.
"Go ahead and finish it... if the fish is cursed you'd already be cursed." Alaric left the rat to finish off the evil fish.
Alaric didn't blame the rat, the rat was just a rat, and he expected the rat to eat whatever it could find.
After the rat finished the meal, it went onto Alarics shoulder.
He did his normal morning routine now.
He went to the washroom and briefly washed himself, and then got clothes on.
Today he decided to wear his new clothes.
He put on the orange overalls, brown shirt, and a fresh pair of underwear and socks. He put on the pair of boots and the hat as well. He was geared up to fish, but he likely wouldn't fish today.
Alaric also reapplied bandages to feel more confortable.
Heading down the stars, Alaric prepared some money for Cornelious.
"Here's six for the room, and three for some breakfast. What do you have?" Alaric handed him some money.
"I'll get right on it!" Cornelious' eyes lighted up seeing the money.
"Duck eggs and beef sausage for breakfast." Cornelious said.
"Some scraps for your rat too." Corelious finished.
After a while, Cornelious brought out some sausage eggs and a bowl of scrap food for the rat.
"Thanks man!" Alaric thanked Cornelious for the meal before heading out. The strange "Jack of all trades" people were not there.
Alaric decided to head to the fishing guild. Along with him, he brought his machete and fishing rod. It wasn't impossible that Alaric would fish today.
But there were other reasons, majorly two.
Firstly, Alaric wanted to join the fisherman guild. Although he wanted to specialize in Esoteric Fishing, the guild was open to all fishermen. The vast majority were just normal fishermen or fishing adjacent people. People who had lobster traps, as well as fish breeders were welcome as well.
From what Alaric knew, Esoteric Fishermen were a strange minority. There were likely a few in the guild, but not many.
Since seeing the worm person, it was obvious that there were separate factions within the Esoteric Fishermen. But Alaric could join one later. The Fisherman guild was open to people who were part of more specialized organizations as well.
But Alaric assumed that many of the top Esoteric Fishermen were separate from the guild altogether just to keep a low profile.
Alaric was already on his way. It was a normal business day for people.
There were people about, and it was a nice day.
Despite Alarics strange appearance, people didn't comment much. Alaric luckily lived near a mage guild and a major international trade center, so seeing people out of the norm was in fact the norm.
Alaric brought a bag with him with his money. The rat rested on his shoulder, and the rod was resting on his back. The machete was in a sheath on the side of his pants.
Due to the immense danger present by people and beasts at any given time, there was no attention payed to his weapon. The vast majority of people were trained in a weapon from a young age in case of a monster or mage attack.
This created a culture where petty crime was somewhat lessened due to most people being capable of defending themselves, as well as the threat of mages upholding the law.
Even as a kid, in middle school Alaric brought a small knife to school every day. He actually had to prepare to use it once as a four headed wolf was near his school once. Luckily a mage stepped in and blew it up.
The school smelled like guts for a hot second, but at least it was safe.
Humans were now a variable species. The average human was not very strong, and even most mages weren't that strong. But on the other end, due to the intellect of humans that was superior to any other species, the top human mages and warriors were very relative to some of the beasts that be.
Alaric was thinking about life as he walked to the guild. He had no one to talk to really, and people watching wasn't always an issue.
Along his way, he stopped by a store to buy some things for general use.
He bought some salted meats and fruits and put them in his bag as a snack for later. It was important to keep mentally well through stabilizing ones diet.
Alaric also picked up a copy of the news. He did go to school and could read and write. It can never hurt to know whats going on in general.
A lot of the news nowadays is violent, mostly about some guild killing a giant beast or countries declaring war on each other. Not much to look forward too.
But if one could use any of the information to their advantage the news was useful.
There was an article that caught Alarics eye.
"Farmer converted to mage becomes a government employed mercenary."
"Huh, thats cool, but we already have enough mages." Alaric thought.
"What is he going to do, kill them with carrots?" Alaric laughed.
But then he stopped laughing, this guy probably had way more money and was way more powerful than Alaric.
After peeking at the news, Alaric finally arrived at the Fisherman Guild.
