Chapter 19 - Forced delay

Even without looking in the mirror, one could tell how embarrassed she looked. Xin Gan covered her nose, her forehead was cold, her palms were wet and greasy, and she smelled a bloody odor. She swallowed the saliva from her cigarette, and the smell of blood could be felt in her throat.

Faced with Cheng Jiu's teasing, she frowned, glared at him angrily and said in a muffled voice, "No."

"Then why did you have a nosebleed? Let go of your hand. I'll wipe it for you."

Cheng Jiu went into the bathroom again and took out a towel. Seeing that Xin Gan was still covering her nose, he chuckled softly and directly reached out to pry open her hand. She was about to struggle, but he was quick to use his other hand to hold her shoulder. He was strong and his palm was thick. She was hurt and kept breathing out, Shouting, "It hurts."

Cheng Jiu said, "Sorry," and let go of his hand. "I let you let go."

It was her own fault for not cooperating that he took the initiative to do so.

Behave yourself. Lie still. He commanded.

Xin Gan: "..." But he also obediently lay down without moving.

Cheng Jiu took a towel to wipe her nose. Just now, he had hurt her without even exerting much force. But when he gave her a nosebleed, his movements were much gentler.

Looking from Xin Gan's direction, I saw his deep eyelids half-sunken, covering his eyes. His eyelashes were thick and long, the kind that women would envy. Further down, his nose bridge was high and straight, his lips pursed, and the corners of his mouth seemed to curve, a half-smile.

Xin Gan realized that his mind was wandering and immediately shifted his gaze away.

After wiping her face, Cheng Jiu wiped her hands. His palm supported hers. The man's hand and the woman's hand, one large and one small, overlapped with each other. His palm was dry and hot, pressing against the back of her hand. With his other hand, he held a towel to wipe her palm. Xin Gan was completely the one being taken care of.

Xin Gan felt embarrassed, her heart pounding. She stared at the ceiling, not daring to look at him.

After wiping his hands, Cheng Jiu went into the bathroom to wash the towel clean. When he came out again, the towel had already been washed clean. He bent over again, removed the towel from her forehead and replaced it with a clean one.

Xin Gan pursed her lips and, out of politeness, still said "Thank you."

Cheng Jiu snorted softly, "You're welcome. It's my fault for not taking good care of you. I'm responsible."

Xin Gan: "..."

Cheng Jiu turned his head to look at the child and asked, "What's your name?"

Asonli looked at Xin Gan and then at him, saying, "Asonli."

After asking, Cheng Jiu looked at Xin Gan again and called out to her, "Xin Gan."

Xin Gan could only look at the ceiling and dared not move around. "Huh?"

She couldn't see Cheng Jiu's serious and earnest expression at this moment.

If you don't like to be with me, I won't force you.

Xin Gan: "..."

But don't worry. It's not that easy to break off a marriage. The marriage arranged by the older generation has been passed for so many years, and they still remember it. It shows how much they value it. If you want to be honest with them, you have to find a legitimate reason, like my death in battle or something like that. Then you can just find someone to marry. My family can't stop you either.

Xin Gan fell completely silent. She bit her lower lip and said softly, "It's not that serious. Don't curse yourself."

Cheng Jiu smiled and said, "Seriously, my current situation really can't hold you back. What if we both get well and one day I die in the line of duty? What will you do?"

His tone was actually light and carefree, not overly heavy.

Kexingan felt a bit uncomfortable in his heart. His profession was something to be proud of, but it was also full of dangers, and they were unknown dangers. It could happen at any time and anywhere... Die in the line of duty.

Xin Gan didn't know what to respond.
