Teacher Ageo stood on the podium and looked at the children below. She silently called out their names in her mind. When he found no missing people or accidents, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Teacher Ageo clapped her hands and said cheerfully, "Since today is the first day of school, how about we learn to fold paper cranes together?"
After hearing what Teacher Ageo said, Tsuna, who was sitting bored on the chair, also became interested. He seemed to have folded paper cranes a few times when he was in elementary school in his previous life.
But the other children almost didn't know what paper cranes were, including Shouko, who looked at Teacher Ageo on the podium with a confused expression.
Teacher Ageo raised the corners of her mouth and chuckled. It was very cute to see the children below showing such expressions.
Teacher Ageo asked them to sit down obediently and fold one for them to see. Then she lowered her head and took out the square hand-painted cardboard that had been prepared long ago from the drawer next to the podium. She folded a red paper crane in a few seconds and then held it high to let the children below see it more clearly. She received admiring eyes from all the children below except Tsuna.
Teacher Ageo walked from the podium to the first child on the left and asked them to pass it to the others one by one. Then, she walked back to the podium and took out a stack of hand-painted cardboard from the drawer to distribute to the children.
Tsuna looked at the five square paper of different colors that were distributed. Teacher Ageo shouted to the children below: "Okay, children, look at the teacher and follow the teacher to fold."
Teacher Ageo first demonstrated the first step of folding the paper in half to the children, then walked down to check if anyone had made a mistake. After confirming that there were no problems, she proceeded to the next step.
Finally, after completing the demonstration, Teacher Ageo looked over the children's work. Some were neat, others a bit messy, but from their appearance, it was clear they were all paper cranes.
Tsuna's crane was folded almost exactly like Teacher Ageo's, earning him an admiring gaze from Shouko in the seat next to him. Shouko began to pester Tsuna, asking him to teach her step by step.
"Children, try folding on your own first. If you don't understand something, come up and ask the teacher. Teacher Ageo said to the children, then lowered her head at the podium and continued folding paper cranes.
"Okay!"
Under Tsuna's hands-on teaching, Shouko also perfectly folded a beautiful paper crane. She happily held up the paper crane to show off to the little girl next to her and kept saying that it was Tsuna who taught her.
After folding a dozen paper cranes, Teacher Ageo looked up at the children below, who were obediently folding their papers. She ignored Tsuna, who was quietly watching Shouko as she folded, and for some reason, a warm feeling rose in her heart. Then she clapped her hands loudly to get the attention of the children who were still focused on their work.
The children looked up at Teacher Ageo on the podium in confusion. She reached into the drawer, took out a sheet of little red flower stickers, and shook them in front of the class. In a warm voice, she said, "The teacher is going to check your folding one by one now. If you've done well, you'll get a little red flower as a reward." With that, she began walking toward the first child.
Shouko was nervous and a little excited. She placed the five folded paper cranes on the table and asked Tsuna who was watching her: "Tsuna, Tsuna, which one do you think is the best looking?"
Tsuna first took a serious look and then pointed to the one he had taught from the beginning. Shouko also looked in the direction Tsuna pointed, and said happily, "Hehe, I think so too." After that, she put the rest into the hole in the table.
Tsuna suddenly felt a little discomfort in his stomach. He turned his head and said to Shouko, who was smiling at the paper cranes, "Shouko, I'm going to the toilet. Don't worry about me." After that, he stood up, said a few words to Teacher Ageo at the front, and quickly walked out of the Sakura class.
When Teacher Ageo reached Shouko's seat, she first gave a thoughtful comment, then gently tore off a small red flower sticker and placed it on Shouko's left cheek. In a kind voice, she said, "Shouko, since this paper crane is so beautiful, the teacher will keep it."
When Shouko heard this, she became upset and quickly reached out to protect the paper crane. She said anxiously, "I don't want the little red flower anymore. I can't give this paper crane to you, Teacher!"
"Why?" Teacher Ageo asked curiously, surprised by Shouko's strong reaction.
Shouko gently held the paper crane, lowered her head, and stammered, "Because… because… because this is the first one Tsuna taught me to fold. I don't want to give it to anyone!"
After saying that, Shouko felt a little guilty toward Teacher Ageo and quickly took out four other paper cranes from the compartment in her desk for the teacher to choose from. She even offered, "You can take all of these instead."
Teacher Ageo raised the corner of her mouth but said nothing. She randomly picked one of the four paper cranes, then touched Shouko's head, chuckled, and said, "Okay, okay~. The teacher won't take that one." She then turned her head to look at Tsuna and remembered that he had gone to the toilet.
When Tsuna returned to his seat, Teacher Ageo had finished checking everyone's work and sat back down at the podium. However, she still took a little red flower, walked over to Tsuna's seat, and gave him a serious comment.
Tsuna nodded perfunctorily at Teacher Ageo as she tore off a small red flower and tried to stick it on his face.
Tsuna quickly raised his hands to protect his face and said, "Teacher Ageo, please give the small red flower to Shouko as a reward."
Teacher Ageo didn't know what to say to the two children, so she turned around and stuck it on the right cheek of Shouko, who was confused, and then took away one of Tsuna's paper cranes and returned to the podium.
Shouko looked at the small red flower on her face and asked Tsuna in confusion, "Tsuna, why don't you want the small red flower awarded by Teacher Ageo?"
"Because I saw you like it, I gave it to you, and the other children only have one small red flower, but Shouko has two." Tsuna chuckled and answered Shouko's doubts.
"But won't you have a small red flower this way?"
Tsuna didn't reply but touched Shouko's head with a raised corner of his mouth.
At that moment, Teacher Ageo on the podium clapped her hands to attract everyone's attention. She shouted loudly, "Children, next, the teacher will tell you the story of the paper crane."
The whole morning was spent listening to Teacher Ageo's story. She told them that if they folded a thousand paper cranes, their wish would come true.
The children listened very seriously. Shouko even told Tsuna that she would fold a thousand paper cranes and wish for the Miyamura and Nishimiya families to be safe and happy.
Tsuna couldn't help but ask Shouko curiously, "Why don't you wish for your ears to be normal?"
Shouko turned her head, looked at Tsuna seriously, and said, "Because you are the most important person in my heart. If the first wish comes true, then I will fold another thousand cranes and make that wish."
