ETHAN'S POV
The rain was just beginning to fall when I stepped out of the boardroom.
It hadn't been a particularly long meeting, but I had spent the entire time only half-present, my mind preoccupied by something far more important than numbers and quarterly reports.
I had managed to hold it together through the presentations, the analytics, the questions. But now that I was alone in the hallway, my fingers were already reaching for my phone.
One missed call from Ava.
A flutter of nerves hit me in the chest. Ever since that first test result, ever since I held her trembling hands in the doctor's office, the world had shifted.
Not dramatically. Not in a way that others could see. But for me? Everything felt newly defined.
She was pregnant. We were going to have a child.
I leaned against the marble pillar outside the conference room and tapped the call button. The line rang twice before she picked up.
"Hey," her voice came through, warm and a little breathless.
