Katherine walked steadily to the chair opposite Hospital Director Wang's desk and slowly sat down.
Hospital Director Wang glanced at her casually, his eyes showing a faint, hard-to-notice complicated feeling. Then he reached for the phone on his desk, his long fingers skillfully dialing a number.
"This is Hospital Director Wang. Is there any result about the incident with Dr. Katherine in our department yet?"
"When can Dr. Katherine return to work at the hospital?"
After a brief conversation, he ended the call and turned to Katherine with a smile that did not reach his eyes.
"Dr. Katherine, this matter is probably not as easy to resolve as you think. After all, this incident has been classified as a medical accident."
Katherine's face remained calm, like a deep lake without a ripple.
She spoke slowly, "Why is it difficult to resolve? What does this delay mean?"
"Also, why has it become a medical accident? I made no mistakes during the surgery."
"Director, you and the other colleagues should understand why Patient Chen had severe bleeding, right?"
"Was it my personal fault, or were there other external causes?"
Her tone was steady but carried an undeniable power. Each question was like a sharp sword, striking straight at the core of the problem.
Hospital Director Wang's expression darkened immediately. A flash of panic showed in his eyes but was quickly hidden.
"Dr. Katherine, what do you mean by that? Do you know something about the cause?"
Katherine's lips curled into a half-smile, neither fully sincere nor fully fake.
"Director, why are you so nervous? Do you really know the reason?"
She fixed her gaze on Hospital Director Wang, trying to catch more useful information from his subtle expressions.
He looked uncomfortable under her watchful eyes. A strong unease rose in him, wondering if Katherine had already uncovered some secrets.
"How could I know the cause? If I knew, I would have handled it already. I'm just asking what you meant by your previous words."
Katherine smiled lightly as if talking about a trivial matter.
"Nothing special. It's just that Patient Chen's current attending doctor mentioned that his condition was no accident."
She paused, watching Hospital Director Wang's reaction, then continued.
"After all, Patient Chen's surgery was performed by you and Doctor Shanshan together. The diagnosis report should clearly record his condition, right?"
Hearing this, Hospital Director Wang's eyes flared with anger, as if his weakness was touched.
"Katherine, what exactly are you implying?"
"Do you think that Shanshan and I secretly colluded to frame you?"
His voice raised a few degrees, showing a mix of anger and shame.
Katherine had only some doubts before, but now, seeing his strong reaction, she was sure they had worked together.
Still, her face showed no emotion. She replied calmly.
"Director, why get so angry? I'm only sharing my thoughts."
"As the person involved, I have the right to request to review Patient Chen's later medical records to find the truth."
Patient Chen was originally treated by Katherine. Now, because of this incident, Shanshan took over.
Hospital Director Wang took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.
"Dr. Katherine, you may not know. Just two days ago, our department's computer was infected by a virus. All patient records stored on the computer were lost."
Katherine frowned slightly and asked, "What about the handwritten records? Were they lost too?"
Wang Yaowen clearly knew that Katherine came today with bad intentions, definitely to cause trouble. So he pretended to be helpless and answered, "I'm not really sure about that. If you want to know the details, you'd better ask Director Wang."
A sly look flashed in his eyes as he tried to push this tricky problem onto Shanshan to avoid Katherine's relentless questioning for now.
"Director, to be honest, you know my relationship with Shanshan. This matter probably still needs you to handle it," Katherine said.
"You go find her yourself. I have a meeting to attend later," Wang Yaowen said.
Katherine immediately stood up, speaking firmly, "Director, as far as I know, you don't have any meetings this afternoon."
Hearing this, Wang Yaowen could no longer hold back his anger. He stood up and stepped forward, pressing, "Doctor Katherine, are you trying to rebel?"
Katherine stared at Wang Yaowen's furious, wide-eyed expression. Though troubled inside, she still tried to keep calm on the surface.
She instinctively took two steps back. "Director, why are you looking at me like that?"
Her voice trembled slightly, showing a faint trace of nervousness.
"What do you think?" Wang Yaowen said angrily, his eyes burning with rage as he reached out impulsively to grab Katherine's hand.
At this tense moment, the door was suddenly pushed open forcefully with a loud bang, breaking the frozen atmosphere in the room.
Joshua and Secretary Jin walked in with steady steps.
Joshua stood tall with an extraordinary presence. His eyes showed natural confidence and calm. Secretary Jin followed closely behind, pushing up his glasses with a sharp, intelligent gaze.
Seeing Joshua, Katherine felt her tense heart suddenly find support. She couldn't help but sigh in relief, the relaxed expression flashing briefly across her face.
Joshua quickly crossed the room and came to Katherine's side.
He slightly turned his body and looked straight at Wang Yaowen. His tone was calm but firm as he asked, "Director Wang, am I disturbing you?"
Wang Yaowen looked at the unfamiliar man suddenly appearing in front of him, filled with confusion and caution.
He searched his memory quickly but found no record or connection with this man.
"Who are you? How can you barge into my office like this?" He frowned, his voice showing clear dissatisfaction and accusation.
Secretary Jin lightly pushed his glasses. Behind the lenses, his eyes showed understanding.
At this moment, he finally understood why their boss was so eager to come here.
He thought silently, so this was all for their future boss's wife.
Joshua smiled politely and explained, "Director Wang, we did knock just now, but maybe because the room was noisy, you didn't hear us."
"Seeing the door wasn't closed, we took the liberty to come in. Please forgive us."
Joshua then explained his purpose, "I came today mainly to introduce and promote our company's latest testing equipment to you."
After speaking, Joshua turned to Katherine with a gentle look, "Miss, could you and my assistant wait outside for a moment? I need to discuss some matters with Director Wang alone."
Katherine looked up at Joshua, their eyes meeting in the air. She nodded lightly, "Okay."
