Chapter 4 - 4. Group of Death

Because all the points have been spent by Neil, Neil cannot buy double or triple training efficiency cards for the next training.

The first person Neil had to train was goalkeeper Rohit Ramesh. There were not many training programs for goalkeepers, so Neil chose the one with the best cost-effectiveness, which was "1 on 1 facing goalkeeper", which could train flying saves, reaction ability and goalkeeper positioning.

The second and third items were given to central defender Sumit Adhikari, for him he chose "precise dribbling" and "advanced defensive scenarios" respectively.

"Precision dribbling" can train strength, ball control, agility and dribbling. This training program can train Adhikari's strength, which is exactly what Adhikari needs most, while "Advanced defensive scenarios" can train interception, defensive awareness, sliding tackles and steals.

The fourth and fifth items were given to the striker with the highest potential, Kevin Gomez. The first choice was "Race against time". "Race against time" can train ball control, dribbling, agility and speed. Although Gomez is a standing center forward, speed is always good after training.

Then Neil chose "Another Brick on the Wall". "Another Brick on the Wall" can train volleys, shooting power, header accuracy and finishing kick, and is the most suitable training program for Gomez.

After all, it was just ordinary training, so it didn't help much in the growth of the players. First of all, goalkeeper Rohit Ramesh's reaction ability improved by more than one line, rising to 48 points, and goalkeeper positioning also increased by points. Both attributes increased by one point, and Rohit's ability also increased by one point, rising to 51 points.

As for center back Adhikari, his interception increased a little, to 50 points. Finally, it is striker Gomez. Since his overall ability is relatively high, his attributes have not been improved, but there are several attributes that are just a little away from improvement.

. . . . . .

As Neil expected, Samarth Singh, Nikhil Praveen and Adarsh Yadav quickly agreed. While they were surprised, they were also curious about why they were invited.

Soon the news that Neil became the head coach of the Indian National Youth Team came out. At the same time, they also revealed that in addition to Neil, the Football Association had two other options, one was Ajay Gupta and the other was Sunil Kumar.

However, Ajay Gupta is currently the head coach of the Indian women's football team and will definitely not take over the national youth team. Although Sunil Kumar has coached the national youth team before, his record was average and he did not help the national youth team qualify successfully.

The outside world believed that Sunil Kumar was a defeated coach, but now Sunil Kumar is the deputy general manager of Kerala Blasters, so in the end Sunil Kumar was not selected, and in the end the young man Neil had the last laugh.

After this news came out, many people began asking questions online, "Who is this Neil Mehta?" and the question flooded all major football forums.

Immediately afterwards, countless people began to question Neil Mehta, believing that Neil was not qualified to coach the Indian National Youth Team. After all, the National Youth Team represents the future of Indian football.

Faced with overwhelming doubts, Neil's mentor Khalil Jamil stood up and spoke for Neil at the first moment.

"Neil is definitely capable of coaching the national youth team. When I was the head coach of the Jamshedpur team, I knew Neil's ability. And because Neil has been coaching youth teams, he can work well with young players."

However, Neil knew nothing about this because he was preparing to lead the team to Mumbai for training on April 18. Kevin Gomez, Sumit Adhikari and Rohit Ramesh were of course all recruited by Neil.

Neil was confirmed to take over as the head coach of the National Youth Team on April 9th, and then the next day Neil traveled through time and obtained the scout system, so Neil also trained once before the 18th.

Goalkeeper Rohit's reaction ability increased a little bit to 49 points, while central defender Adhikari's dribbling increased a little bit to 53 points, and Adhikari's ability also increased to 54 points.

Finally, there is forward Gomez. His ball control, dribbling and volley have all improved a little. Although Gomez's ability has not improved, he is only a little away from improving.

During the training camp, the other players were very curious about the three newcomers. Among them, Gomez and Rohit are the youngest players as both were born in 1997.

Just when Neil was excited about his future, a basin of cold water was poured on Neil's head, and also on the heads of all Indian fans who were paying attention to the AFC U-20 Asian Cup.

Because on April 25, the AFC U-20 Asian Cup group draw ceremony was held in Myanmar, and the Indian National Youth Team was drawn into the death group.

The Indian National Youth Team was divided into Group C, together with the Japanese National Youth Team, the Korean National Youth Team and the Vietnamese National Youth Team.

The Vietnam National Youth Team is not so bad. If it was 2020, the Vietnam National Youth Team would still be a tough target, but the current Vietnam National Youth Team is still very weak.

Then there are the Japanese National Youth Team and the South Korean National Youth Team. There is no need to say much about the strength of these two teams. Everyone thinks that the Indian National Youth Team's qualifying situation is precarious.

The outside world may not know that the contract signed by Neil and the Football Association ended at the AFC U-20 Asian Cup, and it is likely that it will be renewed only after entering the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

This puts Neil under great pressure, but fortunately there is still 6 months of rest time. By then, as long as the players brought by these three scout cards grow up, there will be opportunities.

In May, Neil will lead the team to Portugal for training. At that time, they will play against the Portuguese national youth team and the Greek national youth team respectively. This will also be Neil's first show as coach of the national youth team, and it will also be a good experience for this group of players.

Before this, Neil accepted an interview with the media. The issue that the reporters were most concerned about was undoubtedly the group of death in the AFC U-20 Asian Cup. Facing the question, Neil answered very confidently:

"It's a great experience to play against strong teams like Japan and South Korea, but we are not without opportunities. I believe we have the strength to successfully advance and let everyone see the hope of Indian football."

Then the reporters asked Neil what the biggest difficulty was in taking over the National Youth Team.

"It's probably because I didn't have enough time. After taking over the national youth team, I only had more than half a year to prepare. In addition, our coaching team is newly built, so there are some deficiencies in the running-in of both the coaching team and the players."

Finally, the reporter asked Neil what the national youth team's next plans were.

"Next, we will go back to Portugal, to play against strong European teams. This will not only allow us to get the team in shape as soon as possible, but also allow the players to experience the strength of strong European teams."

What Neil said in the interview greatly boosted the morale of the players. They were still a little unconfident. After all, their opponents were the Japanese and Korean teams, and the youth training of these two countries has always been very good.

The players also felt that it might be very difficult to qualify from the group. At this time, Neil's words undoubtedly gave them great confidence, and they even began to look forward to the AFC U-20 Asian Cup in October.
