Episode 39: The Mirror's Truth

Evelyn stood frozen.
The mirror pulsed—its surface liquid and alive. Black vines crept around her wrist like skeletal fingers, trying to pull her in. But she didn't resist.
She couldn't.
The voice calling her… it wasn't dark. It wasn't evil.
It was familiar.
Like a lullaby she had long forgotten.
Her fingertips brushed the glass—
And suddenly, she was somewhere else.

A throne room bathed in moonlight.
Evelyn stood at the center, wearing a crown of silver flames.
Around her, knights bowed. A man stood behind her, his hand on her waist.
Kael.
But not this Kael.
He wore white robes, not armor. No fire in his eyes. Just warmth. Peace.
She turned to him, confused.
"Is this a dream?"
"No," he whispered. "It's a memory."

The vision shifted.
The sky burned red.
Screams echoed through the halls.
The peaceful Kael collapsed, fire eating him from the inside.
Evelyn screamed and ran to him—but something stopped her.
A hand.
Her own.
She looked at her reflection and saw someone else entirely. Golden eyes. Crown ablaze. And on her chest—a mark.
A sigil of power older than kingdoms.
She wasn't just a girl.
She was a reincarnated queen.

The mirror shattered.
Evelyn fell back, gasping.
Lucien rushed in, sword drawn. "What happened?"
She looked up, shaken.
"I… I was there. Before all this. Before now. I was… I belonged to him. To Kael."
Lucien's face hardened.
"You need to tell him."
"No," Evelyn whispered. "Not yet."

Outside, Kael stood at the edge of the ruins, watching black clouds gather.
A raven landed near him, cawing once.
His eyes narrowed.
"The Gravewalkers are here."

Far beyond the veil, Seraphina stood in a marble tower, watching everything through a pool of tears.
She clenched her fist.
"They've found the mirror."
Behind her, her army stood in silence. Warriors with wings of fire. Eyes like dying stars.
"She will remember," Seraphina said. "And when she does… the war begins."
