Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: Sore Throat

Sometimes being proactive is too much; why not try being passive? Connors put his hands behind his head and thought leisurely, looking at Seol.

But time didn't allow him this luxury. The purpose of Cindy coming to see him today was self-evident, and she hadn't succeeded yet.

Penguin and Bane, Scarecrow's two accomplices, were still nowhere to be found, and Connors was unwilling to miss the opportunity to gain something from their exploits.

So he left decisively, not forgetting to weave two pieces of clothing out of plants before he went, one for Seol and one for himself.

Bane hadn't made any noise, but during the frantic fight with Seol just now, Connors knew that Penguin was still trying to bombard the stadium with artillery fire—aimed at the solid ice outside. Unfortunately, when he arrived at the scene, there was only a mess: bullet casings and broken ice everywhere, but no sign of Penguin.

"He must have been caught by Batman already. It's a pity I didn't get to witness that gossip…" Connors felt a little regretful.

The system still showed the Joker's "Laughing Man" incident as ongoing, but all the villains he'd encountered so far had been captured by Batman.

The temptation of reward upgrades made Connors decide to either proactively contact other villains to see if anyone else was involved in the Joker's plan or go to the places where the Joker, Riddler, Scarecrow, and others were imprisoned and keep the event going himself.

He'd originally planned to end the incident completely today, but now it seemed that wouldn't be possible. This was a classic case of plans changing.

Connors looked at the bullet casings on the ground, shook his head, sighed, then crouched down with curiosity, picking one up. He hadn't had many opportunities to see real firearms on Earth in his previous life.

After crossing over, Harley Quinn used a baseball bat, Batman relied on his fists and feet, and Cindy Moon used spider silk, so he hadn't had many chances to touch a real firearm.

His curiosity lasted for two seconds before his Spider-Sense began to sound an alarm, and Connors heard a slight "click." Even if you haven't eaten pork, you've seen pigs run. Especially when he turned around and saw a short man pointing a gun at him, he knew without thinking that it was the sound of the gun's safety being disengaged.

"Can we discuss something?"

He only managed to utter that much before the short man was kicked away by Cindy Moon, who suddenly appeared.

Connors estimated the man flew at least ten meters. Cindy Moon's kick was like a car crashing into something with the accelerator floored, and because the force was applied to a smaller area, Connors could even see the flying man split into two pieces in mid-air.

"You…" Connors looked at Cindy, unsure what to say. He had several ways to subdue the armed man and was planning to use the opportunity to ask about Penguin, the Joker, and others, but Cindy had just kicked him to death.

He certainly wouldn't blame anyone, as in Cindy's eyes, he was genuinely being pointed at with a gun, and she simply wanted to save him.

"Do your feet hurt?" After holding it in for a long time, Connors could only manage those words.

Cindy shook her head. Despite her rising and falling chest and eyes that seemed on the verge of tears, she remained a taciturn young woman—a young woman who could kick someone in half with one strike.

Even though Cindy didn't say anything, Connors understood what she meant from her increasingly shy movements and rapid breathing, and quickly refused: "Not now… tonight, tonight!"

After saying that, without waiting for Cindy's answer, he quickly ran in the direction of the short man she had kicked away.

His Spider-Sense indicated the man wasn't dead yet and could still be useful.

"Hmm…" Poison Ivy groaned, and with the fingers of her right hand, she plunged them into her heart like a knife.

"Ivy, what are you doing?" Harley Quinn shouted in panic. While Poison Ivy was imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, Harley had provided the Joker with various weapons to help him escape, but she also forged a good relationship with Ivy while dealing with the prisoners.

Harley, who was planning to make a big move and confront Penguin alone, had been discovered and taken away by Poison Ivy.

Along the way, she noticed that Ivy looked extremely pained. Now that they had arrived at Gotham Forest, Ivy rooted her feet into the ground and stabbed her heart with her five fingers.

"Don't worry, Harley," Poison Ivy pulled out her fingers and said weakly to Harley Quinn. "It's just a way to suppress my own abilities."

Harley Quinn was even more confused: "But why suppress your own abilities?"

"This way I don't have to be in torment all the time." Poison Ivy returned to her slender appearance and sat in a chair made of plants.

Harley had more and more questions: "What torment?"

A blush flashed across Poison Ivy's face. How could she explain this to Harley? Is it something about spring, everything coming back to life, and the mating season?

"Don't worry about it, Harley. I'm glad that you finally got rid of the Joker. How is it? Is the air of freedom fresher?"

Harley Quinn was curious at first, but after Poison Ivy's comments, she became distressed: "No, I'm not free. Today Scarecrow said, 'I'm just a minion of the Joker.' Damn, everyone thinks so except Connors!"

"…Oh, and you, Ivy, you are the only one besides Connors who really treats me as an independent individual."

'Who is Connors?' A flicker of doubt passed through Ivy's mind, but in her eyes, other humans except Harley were far less important than plants, so she quickly dismissed the thought.

She knew that Harley Quinn hadn't finished, so she prompted: "So?"

"So I want to make a big deal! I want to bring chaos to Gotham! Until they name a highway after me."

"?" Poison Ivy didn't understand what making a big deal had to do with naming a highway.

"This way, when the rich people in Gotham are driving on the road, they will think, 'There's a woman named Harley Quinn here. Don't mess with her. She's more evil than any bad guy in Gotham.'" Harley Quinn excitedly painted a rosy picture for Poison Ivy.

"…Haha." Ivy laughed awkwardly twice.

Seol asked her agent to cancel the concert schedule for the next few days. The blond and blue-eyed agent became anxious on the spot: "Cancel? Why?"

"I have a sore throat," Seol said expressionlessly.

"I'm sorry, it's my fault for not paying attention to your physical condition in time. I'll go buy some medicine and make you a cup of hot coffee later…" The agent was a young man with a hooked nose. When he heard her say her throat hurt, he changed his anxious behavior and started to inquire about her health.

This was the perfect time to win the heart of this big star.

The agent was ecstatic internally, but he showed his worry perfectly on his face. Especially when he saw the goddess of his heart, Seol Hee, blushing, he secretly clenched his fists, feeling that he was only one step away from success.
