Chapter 24 - Chapter 23: Miscellaneous Matters

"Mmm, this is fine. As for anything else, my little girl seems to quite like your pastries. Pack one of each for me and have them delivered to this address."

With that, Ye Lan found a piece of paper on the coffee table and wrote down Luna's address.

The manager bowed again. "Rest assured, sir. By the time you arrive home, these pastries will be at your doorstep."

To maintain his persona as a big shot from the Nest and secure the services of these bank employees, Ye Lan had to put on an arrogant front. "Eh, my house in the Backstreets is hardly a home, just a place to crash. Alright, I still have to take my girl to buy some fresh ingredients for dinner."

Ye Lan took Luna's hand, gave a wave to the staff, and walked straight out of the VIP room and the bank.

Next, they had to go to the mall. Then, Ye Lan himself had to find some well-informed Fixers and hire a few reliable ones to keep an eye on the Hana Association's intelligence.

The trip to the mall was uneventful. District 9 was indeed second only to the Nests in terms of safety. Even with a child in tow, he didn't encounter any street rats trying to rob or kidnap them.

Furthermore, the Backstreet lived up to its name as the Street of Music. Every open shop they passed had music playing. The more high-end the shop, the higher the quality of the music.

Arriving at the mall closest to Luna's house, they first went to buy a batch of new clothes. The employee uniform he was wearing would soon become a reason for others to attack him, so preparing a change of clothes was crucial.

And it wasn't just him who needed clothes. Luna, having lost her parents and living alone in District 9, also needed more clothes to change into—clothes that would minimize her skin exposure as much as possible.

Later, when he had settled things here and if time permitted, he could take the girl to get her albinism treated. For the City's level of technology, such a minor problem was only a matter of connections and money.

After buying clothes on the third floor, Ye Lan and little Luna had to go to the second floor. This mall had a layout similar to most others: the first floor was mostly luxury brand stores, the second floor was a comprehensive department store selling everything from fruits and vegetables to home appliances, the third floor mainly sold clothing, and the fourth floor was a string of restaurants.

The two of them browsed the second floor and bought a full shopping cart of fresh ingredients. While waiting in the checkout line, a man in a worn-out suit standing in front of him caught Ye Lan's attention.

The reason was that although the man was in this comprehensive mall, he had only bought a single pack of instant noodles. It seemed more like he had failed to find work here and, not wanting to look too pathetic, bought a cheap item to keep up appearances.

Ye Lan thought to himself, "This guy couldn't be the Pianist, could he?"

But he didn't have a chance to observe the man further. The man, with his single pack of noodles, quickly checked out and left. With it being his turn next, it was unrealistic to leave the line and follow him. By the time he finished checking out, finding the man would be impossible.

Since that was the case, Ye Lan didn't dwell on it. He and little Luna returned to Luna's house with their newly purchased clothes and ingredients. When they got back, the bank employees had already come by, leaving a small mountain of pastries and drinks at the door.

He didn't know what these employees did, but they had somehow kept the "neighbors" at bay. No one had tried to steal the food by the time they returned.

There were still things to do at home. Before dinner, Ye Lan and Luna had to give the house a thorough cleaning. At the very least, they needed to wash the bedsheets and duvet covers and throw out all the moldy or damaged old clothes.

Assigning little Luna to trash duty, Ye Lan took the fresh ingredients into the kitchen. The food that had been stored in the fridge for who knows how long also needed to be carefully sorted, a job he couldn't entrust to the little girl.

About two hours later, they finally managed to tidy up the bedroom and kitchen. As for the living room and the rest of the house, that would have to wait until tomorrow.

After quickly making dinner for Luna and telling her not to open the door for anyone, Ye Lan left the house and headed for the Zwei Association's public security district.

It was strange, but he seemed to have adapted surprisingly well to the role of a father today. His interactions with Luna were also very harmonious. With a hint of a genuine smile on his face, Ye Lan approached a Fixer from the Zwei Association.

After transferring a considerable sum of An to the guy's card, the Fixer quickly told him about a Fixer office that could help him keep an eye on Olivier.

Using the authority implied by his uniform to caution the man to keep his mouth shut, Ye Lan followed the recommendation to the Cane Office. He was very familiar with the owner of this office—it was Nemo, a scumbag character who was quite popular among players.

He knocked on the office door, and without waiting for a reply, pushed it open and walked in. Bada and Martina, Nemo's right and left-hand people, happened to be in the office.

At first, Nemo was annoyed by Ye Lan barging in, but when he saw the main branch employee uniform Ye Lan was wearing, a fawning smiley face lit up on his monitor screen.

"My, my, to have a main branch employee from L Corp, someone we've never had a reported sighting of, visit my humble little office! This truly brings glory to my establishment!"

Nemo practically leaped from behind his desk, rubbing his hands together as he asked Ye Lan, "I wonder what business brings our honored guest here today?"

"Heh, I came today because I have a commission for you. Let me state upfront, this commission involves the Hana Association. But at the same time, I will offer you a price high enough to make it worth your while."

Nemo's monitor face switched to a thinking expression. After a moment, he asked Ye Lan, "Hiss... do we need to fight people from the Hana Association?"

Ye Lan sat down on the guest sofa in the office, crossed his legs, and said to Nemo, "Of course not. I just need you to keep a constant watch on a Hana Association Fixer named Olivier. The moment he undertakes a job related to District 25, you are to notify me immediately."

"Ha, that simple? Of course, that's no problem... I wonder how much An you're willing to pay?"

Ye Lan named a figure far beyond Nemo's expectations. Faced with such a profit, Nemo, who already considered the commission to be not too difficult, didn't even think about refusing. He immediately drew up a notarized contract and signed it with Ye Lan.
