Chapter 6 - The Holmes Twins

The music room at Evans High School is electric with excitement as a freshman girl bursts in, yelling "Thank God it's Friday!" at the top of her lungs. She plops down beside Bonnie, who's intensely focused on the piano keys, her fingers tapping out a confused melody as she tries to recreate the captivating piano tune she's been hearing at night. The freshman, Laura, nudges Bonnie, trying to get her attention. "Hey, bitch!" she says with a smirk, knowing the music teacher's absence means she can swear freely.

Bonnie barely acknowledges her, still lost in thought. "Hey, Laura," she replies distractedly, her eyes fixed on the keys. Laura's curiosity is piqued, and she asks what's got Bonnie so worked up. Bonnie explains her fascination with the sweet piano sound, and Laura's eyes light up with interest. "You said you've got new neighbors, right? I'm 80% sure it's a guy who's been playing it," she says, her voice filled with conviction.

Bonnie teases Laura about her obsession with boys, and they share a laugh, chatting about girl stuff as the room gradually fills with students. The atmosphere is lively, with chatter and laughter filling the air. But everything changes when Mr. Brock, aka "The Saint," walks in. Students fall silent, aware of his reputation for disapproving of any misbehavior.

Meanwhile, in the physics lab on the outskirts of the school, Laura and Bonnie are wrapping up their class. As they exit, they're startled by a loud "DOOM!" and turn to see a basketball bouncing towards them. They look up to see Tyler, Bonnie's twin brother, grinning at them from the staircase railing. His 5'9" athletic build and spiky hair make him hard to miss.

Bonnie's annoyance is instant. "What if this ball had hit me in the head?" she asks, her voice laced with irritation. Tyler shrugs, his grin still plastered on his face. "That would've been great," he says, his tone dripping with sarcasm. Bonnie notices his jersey and raises an eyebrow. "Why are you wearing that?" she asks, her curiosity getting the better of her.

Tyler's reply is laced with humor. "Perhaps just getting ready to launch into space," he says, his eyes sparkling with mischief. Laura can't resist chiming in. "What are you? Neil Armstrong?" she asks, rolling her eyes good-naturedly. Tyler's response is quick. "Now that I have your attention, kindly inform Vivian Holmes that I'd be home late today," he says, his voice filled with expectation.

Bonnie's response is immediate. "That's our mom, you dickhead," she says, her tone sharp. Tyler's grin doesn't falter. "I know! Hey... one more favour. Kindly throw my ball back to me," he asks, his eyes pleading. Bonnie refuses, her arms crossed over her chest. "You had hands to throw it down, I'm sure you've got legs to find your way here and get it yourself," she says, her tone firm.

Tyler's response is predictable. "You ain't gonna pass me the ball, yeah? Get ready to smell my socks tonight," he says, his voice filled with threat. Laura and Bonnie groan in unison, their faces scrunched up in distaste. "Eww!" they exclaim, laughing as they head to their next class.
