I was born in the royal palace as the first prince - Flavian Attila Hadrian of the Astandra empire. As far as my memories served, I am not Flavian Attila Hadrian of the Astandra empire; I was Leo Mecana - a healthcare practitioner in my past life. The freshest thing I remembered was I died or rather was murdered by a group of people. I still can't believe I was so easy to kill.
For some reason, I still had lingering memories. And I still remember everything as clear as day -
The city is situated by the sea coast, and so the stormy weather is a routine for people living there. In the past, there were disasters, and because of those disasters, many were killed and injured, so a rule was passed - 'The resident area will start keeping the distance of 10kms from every side of the coast'. But even after the rule was passed, by the government, a few refused to follow and stayed there. I was also in that category.
I was always a huge fan of thrillers, and the life of a doctor can be bland sometimes. Regardless, now that I have a chance, why would I not live in this perfect setting? I mean, just a glimpse - there is a free house. You can cover any space you want, electricity comes and goes, anyone rarely ever comes, thieves or gangsters or even ghosts might come by; this is a matter of life and death.
So that is how in search of thrillers, my adventurous life begins. One day I was on my way home, and as usual, I took my never betraying shortcut. I saw a figure lying in that same lane in some remote corner, some distant corner. There was no moment seen in it for a while, so I rushed to check there, finding the figure to be a woman lying unconscious and injured. The lady wasn't that injured, but as a doctor, my instinct told me that the injury must be treated right away.
I tried to carry her to my house as it was just a few minutes from there, and I had the medical aid to treat her, but when I tried towing her, I remembered how physically weak I was. Even so, I did not give up. I carried her on my back and started walking, but it only lasted a few steps, and I fell, taking the lady with me. I realised that if this kept going, I would reach my house by tomorrow morning, so after giving it, some thought, I gave up on taking her home and called for an ambulance.
Hence, I managed to bring her to the hospital and treat her injuries. Later I found out that the lady was not unconscious due to her injuries but due to hunger. The lady regained her consciousness the next day, and after she was a little better, I gave her a document to fill in some details and asked if there were any guardians she would like to let know about her condition.
"None," replied the lady with a soft voice, handing the paper back.
The lady stayed for 3-4 weeks, and as I served and took care of her, I started getting curious about her. She seemed to be at the end of her 20s; her body was stiff, and she had small scars all over her but in no way did she appear inactive. I enjoyed our small talks but couldn't get more of it because at some point, she stopped talking, and I couldn't converse anymore.
After a month, the lady got utterly better, her wounds were almost healed, so I knew she would be discharged in one or two days. But the next day when I came back, the lady was not there. I asked at the reception and the other people in the room but no luck. It was as if she had vanished in thin air.
I was furious. I at least wanted to talk to her one last time and say our goodbyes, so I got the document she had filled out and tried to contact her, but it was of no use as the contact information mentioned in the document was false.
I still hoped to see her, so I always went through the lane where I first found her. A few months had passed, and every day, I went from the same route hoping to see her, but then I thought to myself, 'Why will she even be there' there was simply no reason to, and then another question popped into my mind 'Am I going through this just because I am curious about her?'. I was devastated. I couldn't find her anywhere and didn't even understand my feelings for her.
Later, when I was going home from the same route again, I heard some noises but a little low coming from some distance. I followed it and ended up in front of a small abandoned building. I went inside the building, and there was something on the floor; I hit my leg on it, which made a loud sound. It sounded even louder because there was silence everywhere else.
I started the flashlight on my mobile phone to see what it was, but as soon as the light fell, someone voiced, "Aee" I knew there were people other than me, and they were holding weapons.
That was my only chance to run, but someone was already standing behind me, ready to hit me as I turned around. I panicked but was able to use the flashlight and flashed it right in those people's eyes. Due to this, they started moving around; hence, everyone got distracted, and I ran into the building and found a hiding place.
Those people searching for me say, 'if I come out, they won't hurt me' well, everyone says that I was not that simple-minded in my books. But I won't lie. I was scared to the point that my fever for thrillers in my life started wearing off.
Somebody was coming close to the place I was hiding, so I slowly moved a little backwards, making sure I didn't get noticed.
