Chapter 136 - Chapter 136: Dementors

"Is this all true?"

Fred and George spoke in unison, voices oddly shaky and expressions blank with disbelief.

"Of course it's true. What else could it be?" Noah replied casually, spreading his hands as if it were no big deal. "This information is confirmed. I just gave you a heads-up. Expect it to be public in a few days."

He looked around at Kenn, Evan, Lance, Hermione, and Ernie, all of whom stood nearby. Their initial shock quickly gave way to stunned joy. They hadn't forgotten Noah's earlier promise, to give them a shot at Kamar-Taj for advanced magical training.

Now it seemed he had truly made that possible. While the details were unclear, at least a door had opened for them.

"Merlin's beard... Noah, thank you!" Hermione was the first to react. Her eyes sparkled with emotion, and she barely managed to keep her composure.

"Noah, we, " Kenn started, only to be cut off.

"Alright, alright, don't get too worked up," Noah said, waving his hand. "I only fulfilled my promise. But I can't guarantee all of you will make it in. Some things are beyond me."

"It doesn't matter!" Ernie exclaimed. "This is already amazing. We'll do our best to pass whatever test they give. Do you know how many slots there are?"

"No idea. Probably not many. There might be an entrance exam, or other tests. But if you're good enough, you'll get in."

"This is incredible!" Lance grinned, practically shaking with excitement.

The students were ecstatic. Even if the opportunity was limited, they weren't afraid of exams. They were filled with new determination.

Ron, sitting quietly nearby, clenched his fists. He knew his foundation was weak, but his heart burned with ambition.

In the past, he'd chased after Harry, seeking recognition and praise. But after becoming a test subject of the Mage Alliance, he'd realized how naïve he'd been.

The "Chosen One"? What a joke.

If anyone was worthy of that title now, it was Noah.

That didn't mean Ron resented Harry. Their friendship remained as strong as ever. But both of them had grown. They wanted more than just titles. They wanted power and purpose.

Back home, Ron had never been the star. Now, things were changing. Though his parents still scolded him when he slacked off, he could feel the difference. Their subtle praise meant everything.

He swore to work harder than ever before.

"Kamar-Taj... a real university for magic. But who is this boy, really?" muttered a middle-aged man who'd been pretending to sleep in the corner of the train compartment.

His eyes flicked to Noah, suspicion and awe mixing in his gaze.

"A Fourth-Order Magician? What in Merlin's name does that even mean?"

He couldn't help but imagine what could have been, had such opportunities existed in his youth. Perhaps even his long-standing ailments might've been cured...

While he mulled over these thoughts, the students carried on, chatting excitedly about everything from exams to Sirius Black, the infamous escapee of Azkaban.

"Don't worry, Harry," Evan said, patting him on the shoulder. "Even if he's dangerous, Hogwarts won't let him get near you."

"Yeah, and neither will we," Kenn added firmly.

The atmosphere was warm despite the gloomy skies outside. Even the heavy rain pelting the train didn't dampen their spirits. Others from nearby compartments peeked in, curious about the commotion, but sensing they didn't belong in this tight-knit circle, they slowly drifted away.

As time passed, the sky outside darkened. The hum of conversation faded. Some students returned to their own seats, leaving only Noah and his friends in the now-quiet compartment.

And that's when it happened.

"Why did the train stop?" Lance frowned, looking up.

Kenn looked out the window, and gasped. "Guys... look outside!"

All heads turned. Snow. Thick, heavy flakes floated past the glass.

But this wasn't normal snow.

A cold unlike anything they'd ever felt seeped through the walls of the train, making even their breath tremble.

Noah's eyes narrowed.

He knew exactly what this was.

"The Ministry wouldn't..." he muttered under his breath. "They really stationed Dementors... on a train full of students?"

He clenched his jaw. "Idiots. Absolute idiots."

With a flicker, every light on the train went out.

The windows frosted over in seconds, and the temperature plummeted. Frost coated the water pitcher on their table. The entire train groaned and shuddered, as if it were alive, warning them.

"Everyone, wands out," Noah said, his voice calm but firm. "We've got company."

There was a power in his tone, and the students around him responded instantly. Fear gripped them, but they obeyed.

Then, it came.

A black figure floated past the door.

Not walked, floated.

It wore a tattered black cloak, dripping with shadow, as if soaked in despair itself. A rotting hand, grey and lifeless, emerged from its sleeve.

"A Dementor..." Hermione whispered, her voice trembling.

"Bloody hell," muttered Fred.

Dementors were creatures of pure misery. They fed on peace, joy, and hope. They left behind only despair and agony.

Get too close, and they'd drain every happy memory you had. If they chose to, they could perform the Dementor's Kiss, a fate worse than death. They would suck out your soul, leaving you an empty husk.

No thoughts. No identity. Just an empty, broken body.

And now, they were here.

One of them floated directly toward Harry.

Noah saw it happen, saw the shimmer of magical energy latching onto Harry like a leech, trying to suck his soul through the air.

"Damn it!" the middle-aged man cursed under his breath, springing to his feet. He reached for his wand,

But Noah was faster.

A circle of golden runes flared to life at the tip of his wand, spinning wildly.

"What a disgusting stench," Noah growled. "You things make Inferi look like house pets."

The golden light grew stronger, glowing so brightly it lit up the entire carriage. Magic surged through Noah's body and into the air like a storm unleashed.

The middle-aged man staggered, overwhelmed by the sheer power.

Fourth-Level Magician? This... this was monstrous!

Noah's wand twisted, and then the magic exploded.

A blinding golden pulse shot through the air, slicing through the Dementors like a holy storm.

The creatures shrieked, screams full of rage, horror, and agony, as something tore from their bodies.

Then, they began to disintegrate.

One by one, the Dementors burst into black dust and scattered like ash into the wind, sucked out of the train through broken windows and wide-open doors.

All of it happened in five seconds.

The remaining Dementors outside the carriage saw what happened, and fled in terror.

Their wails echoed as they vanished into the distance, leaving the train in stunned silence.

The cold vanished.

The lights flickered back on.

The windows defrosted.

Noah stood quietly, lowering his wand, golden energy still crackling faintly around him.

"...Was that Kamar-Taj magic?" Hermione asked in a hushed voice.

Noah blinked, then scratched the back of his head. "Uh... yeah. I guess so."

He hadn't expected his spell to work that well. Honestly, he hadn't even used a wand in a while. He'd just put everything he had into the attack, and it worked.

Spectacularly.

"Dementors are spiritual beings," he explained. "My spell affects the soul directly. They didn't stand a chance."

It was over.

But the consequences wouldn't be.

"They were stationed to guard the prison," Lance muttered, breaking the silence.

"I know," Noah replied. "But placing Dementors on a train full of students? And letting them attack Harry? That's a line crossed."

"Yeah," said Kenn grimly. "Even the Ministry will have a hard time explaining this."

"We'll need more than just our word to prove what happened," Hermione said.

Noah gave a small smile. "Luckily... we have a professor right here."

The others turned slowly toward the sleeping man in the corner, who had stood quietly during the chaos.

Remus Lupin smiled faintly beneath his graying mustache.

"Indeed you do," he said.
