Chapter 18 - Next lesson

"Welcome, everyone to your first magic class. My name is Miss Lisa and I'll be your teacher for now."

Her voice sounded so calm and transparent and from that Xavier could tell she was the friendly type of teacher.

"For those of you who have been looking forward to practicing magic today, unfortunately we won't be going straight into that. First of all we would need to form our mana core."

"Every awakened has two cores. A soul core and mana core. Right now, you all have fully developed soul cores but in order to use magic properly and with maximum control you need a mana core."

"First step is to learn the art of cultivation. Cultivation is a technique used to restore one's depleted mana. Its principle can also be applied in the formation of mana cores."

She bent low to take a seat on the floor in a yoga posture. "Mana is everywhere. In living creatures, in our cores even in the air we breathe and we can take in that mana into our system by cultivation. Now class does as I tell you. Try to take in the mana by synchronizing the rhythm of your breathing with the mana round you. Let it flow. Flow throughout your entire body. Try to catch that wave of mana and bend it into a core."

Initially most students didn't get what she was doing but later on some others caught on as they put in some extra focus into what they had been doing.

"Okay class. I can see that some of you have already gotten the hang of it. The process is not instantaneous. You need to continue doing it every day if you want to mature quicker. A minimum of 2 hours a day should be enough."

The bell rang signifying her period had elapsed and it was time for recess.

She wrapped up her class by saying "For those of you still having some trouble with this. You can meet me during recess or wait till tomorrow's class to try to catch the flow," she attempted making a pun but it obviously wasn't gotten by most of the students.

"I'll be taking my leave now. Bye class," she said as she blew warm waves to everyone in the class before exiting the room.

It was evident that most of the students enjoyed this class, reason being that not a single student complained as she had already eaten into their recess time but rather some glanced at her as she walked gracefully through the doors.

The class was a delight for Xavier as well unlike his first he actually made some progress as he was one of the few students who got the hang of cultivation on first try.

It's been five minutes since their recess bugun and Xavier's mind recoiled to that realization.

He thought about what to do with the few minutes he had.

Learning Eldorian history was on the menu but the orb held some degree of important as well, not to point out his deficient credits for his dinner.

It was only last night he got to know that the academy didn't give him much credits to start with. He had only 30 credits to start with and it definitely wouldn't be enough for his dinner.

All he had at home was junk food, hence joining one of those Syllox Programmes was prior as well.

He really needed to make up his mind.

After giving it a thorough thought, he decided to go with the library as he could also enquire about the orb in the General's office on his way there.

He couldn't stand experiencing such a nightmare again.

But then it meant he had to devise a make-shift solution for his dinner tonight. Probably he could make do with what he had for the night and try to acquire some credits tomorrow.

He had to go with that.

He walked through the hallway and arrived at the General's office. He ave two light knocks on his door before the gentle voice gave him a let in.

He needed to make this as brief as possible to allocate more time towards his other priorities.

As he walked in, as usual the Commissioner stood beside the General almost as if he was his bodyguard.

"Good morning sir."

"Good morning Xavier. Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Yes, there actually is." He summoned the orb from behind and pretended to pull it out from his back.

"Do you know what this is?"

"Where in the heavens did you get that?", the general said as he hoisted out of his seat to get a better look at the orb.

The yellow swirls within it threw bright light in the entire room captivating the eyes of the two in the room.

"It was in my room. Is it supposed to be there?"

"Of course not," the general said in immediate exclamation.

He stepped out of his desk and threw two light flicks at the orb.

"Hmmm! I'll look into it. Thanks for drawing my attention to this."

"Okay sir," Xavier said as he walked out of his office, satisfied with how brief he managed to keep it.

He walked towards the library, stepped in and scanned round for the book he needed.

He soon found it and pulled it off the shelve before taking a seat and diving in.

He was a fast reader so it took him only about 20 minutes to conclude the entire book.

[Congratulations. You have learned Eldorian history]

[Reward: 10SP]

When he was done, he closed the book hard and let out a breath of satisfaction.

The bell rang again.

It was time for the next class, the electives and Xavier still hadn't decided what he wanted to do.

He got up, put the book back and headed for his next class.

The first elective for the week was alchemy. He walked up to the laboratory where a met a number of students already there.
