Attorney Vida Frederick POV.
Since my mother in-law spoke with the CEO of LAW AND TRUST FIRM Mr Thomas Bricks over the phone, he became careful in his dealings with me instead, he asks for my permission before sending a case for me to handle. In as much as I love my family I don't want them meddling in my work affairs. I told Mr Bricks not to reveal my marital status to the Fredericks and he agreed.
It's Thursday and I had just one client left before I'd get off work.
"Ma'am she's here" my assistant Claire said but seems to have something to say. " What is Claire? I asked her.
" I can't really tell if it's Daniella Brooks or another Ms Brooks" she said not sure who the client is.
"Let her in, I got just thirty minutes to spare" I told her and she left. Then the door opened again but this time it was Ms Brooks.
" Attorney Frederick, good day" she greeted
" Good day Ms Brooks, please sit" we both exchanged pleasantries.
" How can attorney Frederick help you Ms Brooks?
" I was told you can help me, get to my uncle Mr Brooks Jn, you helped him before" she said
" And why will I do that" I asked her
" He's kids are demanding to see him as well as my dad though confined to a wheelchair now, he's the one who asked me to come to you" she said
"Are you Ms Daniella Brooks relative" I asked
" Yes she's my elder sis but she can't come due to her job" she said
" Tell me about his kids, why do they want to see him? He's been sentenced already"
" They're just want to see their dad but I don't want them to know he's in jail"
" Not jail but life imprisonment. You want me to help get him out for some hours"
" Yes please" she replied
" What do you do? I suddenly asked
" Am in my finals in college but I run my family's business" she said
"Hmm, I will advise you but it up on sale.... Let me finish. You see the Brooks family name has been soiled and am sure you've been struggling with clients and business deals" I said and she nods " I think you should put these on sale then start up a fresh company, it will be preferable if you don't do same business and you don't have to use the Brooks name, it could be your mom's, sister or yours. When you consider this you know where to find me but till then" I told her
" Thank you" she said looking at me with hope of helping her out with her request. I sighed knowing she won't give up but it's not in my power except I involve my husband whom I know won't agree.
" Ms Brooks I'll see what I can do regarding your plea, I'll get back to you" I told her not giving her a positive answer.
"Thank you attorney Frederick" she said then left. I got my stuffs and left as well, my husband's flight will be arriving soon and I need to be at the airport.
I waited for about ten minutes before I saw my husband as well as his assistant and secretary, there's something about this secretary am not comfortable with but I can't place my hands on it. My husband will be surprised to see me instead of the chauffeur, his assistant saw me first and he signaled my husband to my direction who then looked towards me.
"It's good to see you attorney Frederick" said his assistant
" Hello dear it's good to see you as well, you should come visit some day" I told him but he just smiled
" I'll put that in mind attorney Frederick" he said but he won't. I turned to the secretary who was smiling.
"Hello attorney Frederick it's been a while" she said.
"Hello" I said waving at her not ready for pleasantries
" Mr chairman how was your trip?" This is normally how we're in public, though these two with him knows we're married couples.
"Now Mrs Frederick has time for me" he said sneering. " Where's the chauffeur" asked my husband as I was about getting into the drivers seat.
"I am your humble chauffeur Mr chairman" at my words he frowned taking the keys and threw it at his assistant. "To the villa" he instructed joining me at the back but remained silent.
When got back we freshened up and had dinner, my husband seems stressed out because he laid down immediately we entered the bedroom.
" Are you okay darling" I asked
"Yes am good, just stressed with work"
"Okay, please can I ask for a favor" I asked him.
" Which is" he asked.
" It's about Mr Brooks, who's been sentenced to life imprisonment, the kids wants to meet with him" I told him.
"You want me to help bring him out for his kids? My husband asked
" Yes, but could it....." I was saying
" I love you and admire your kindness towards others but you see this request count me out. If the kids wants to see their dad they should go to him in jail so as to know the truth and not avoid it" he paused then continue " you as an attorney knows it's the right thing to do, so why do other wise? Honey it's has been a long journey and day so I want to rest my tired muscles" he said as he adjusted himself to sleep. It's gonna be difficult to make him do other wise now.
That night I couldn't sleep, I had a disturbing nightmare where someone motherless babies were pleading for help and some asked me for food. Their tears broke my heart as I went to offer them help. That morning when I woke up I called the caregiver at the orphanage in which I built for the kids at the nearby country home.
She told me they were good and they had some visitors the previous day but what surprised me was the name she told me ' Ms Brooks'. I sighed then got ready for the day with hopes my husband will have a second thought but then my mother-in-law came to mind but I don't want to upset my husband. I sighed ' what do I do' I thought.
