Chapter 22 - Why are we running?

The day went by and I didn't even get a glance.

Sigh.

I walk to the elevator, putting on my coat. I sling the purse against my arm, standing beside the others, waiting for the elevator to ding open.

I rush in with others, standing against the wall. Tapping my feet, I stand still as I wait for the door to open to the lobby. Everyone was busy, gossiping or giggling with their own company, and I stood still, watching over.

I feel my head throbbing, I shut my eyes, feeling weird.

Is it happening again?

And all of a sudden it's gone, I open my eyes, but something is different.

For a second, I thought I was imagining, but…it felt weird.

My vision blurred, and sharpened in a quick rush that I felt overwhelmed. Are my eyes acting up?

I rub my eyes, groaning.

"You okay, miss?" Someone asks, I flinch, blinking my eyes as I nod, bowing my head subtly with an awkward smile.

And just like that, a little tantrum and it's back to normal.

Do I need to get my eyes checked?

The elevator dings, opening, and everyone rushes out, lost in their world.

I walk out, looking around, still checking my eyes. Since now, it was working fine, I sigh, heading out.

"Miss. Sierra! Wait!" I look back, startled.

I smile as I catch sight of my team, "Oh." I mumble.

"Are you already leaving?" Amelia asks, rushing to me. I nod my head, baffled, and she grins, shaking her head. "No, you are not." She mumbles, grabbing my arm.

"Uh?"

"Miss. Sierra. Come on, we need to get to know each other." Amy says, holding my other arm.

Um, what's going on? Guys?" I ask, awkwardly. I look at Vier, trying to get a hold of the situation, but he shrugs, chuckling. I frown.

"We want to hold a welcome party for you, Miss. Sierra." Dean says, approaching me with Vier, I chuckle, looking at them all, "Welcome party? For me?"

I was surprised, but it felt…comforting.

They accepted me, that's that.

"Come on, it's been days since you've been here." Vier adds, "Also, we hadn't had an opportunity to share, last two days." Amy says, I smile, a little embarrassed.

"Oh, that's…" I scratch my forehead, and they giggle.

"Since office time is over, let's be a group of friends, and eat something good!" Amelia says, a little excited, Amy joins her.

"Then, you should start with using my name." I say, shrugging.

"Sierra! Let's go!" Amelia says, dragging me with her while Amy giggles, running after us. I turn around, finding Dean and Vier shake their head, rolling their eyes as they follow us, at their own pace. I smile, looking ahead.

"Should we be running?" I ask, chuckling.

"It's fun."

"Yeah, also I am hungry." Amy adds, We slowly start walking instead, letting the boys catch up. I smile, feeling happy. This was my first outing in this new place, with new friends.

"Why aren't the boys keeping up?" Amelia mumbles, turning around.

"Uh?" She mumbles, and we look back too.

I frown, I gasp as my eyes meet his.

And then it hits me, the tension between us.

Which is growing awkward, more and more.

But why?

I look down, I mean…it was him. Who said that, to not judge him.

He left, just like that, and we haven't talked since, as he kept himself busy with work.

Of course, work is important.

But he did ask…to be friends.

So, now…what?

I flinch, coming out of my trance as I hear Amelia and Amy gasp, Amy even squealing a little. I frown then look ahead, and god- I couldn't breathe for a moment.

Why is he approaching us?

I blink my eyes, I tried to look away, but I couldn't.

His eyes are magnetic, I swear.

"Boss?" Amelia mumbles, and I blink my eyes and look at her.

"Hi. Miss. Sierra." I look ahead, noticing Chris. I flush, how could I have not acknowledged his presence, shit.

"Oh, hello. Sir." I say, bowing my head to both of them.

"Seems like we have company today." Dean mumbles, grinning even.

I look at him, Vier chuckles, "Boss said he would join and welcome Miss. Sierra too." I gasp, eyeing Vier and then at Luthien, tilting my head, I gulp.

Amy and Amelia chuckle, squeezing me.

I blink my eyes, "Uh…"

"Anyways, we can be friends to, right? Miss. Sierra?" Chris asks. I nod my head.

Smile.

Sierra, just try and smile.

Fuck, why am I so stiff?

I clear my throat, "So, where to?" I mumble, trying to brush off this sudden tense atmosphere.

"Boss, do you have somewhere you wish to be?" Amy asks, smiling softly, even blushing.

"Um, no. Wherever you all lead to." He mumbles, the same cold and distant tone.

"I do have one good place." Dean speaks, pulling his phone out. "Where?" Amelia asks, leaning onto him, looking at his phone.

"Oh." She mutters.

"Where is it?" Vier asks, leaning too.

I look at them, trying not to face him.

I don't know if I should smile or say something.

Why did I even ask why he was nice to me? Fuck you, Sie.

Now bear this.

"This is close to the park. Hmm, works." Vier comments, others nod, "Let's go, I am hungry." Amy whines again, pulling me ahead with her, and I gulp, letting her drag me.

I could feel him behind me.

I could hear Chris grinning, like always. Teasing him.

I was too occupied with my thoughts as Amy kept pulling me with her, talking as she looked behind, facing Dean and Vier. I freeze as my ear catches a sharp screech, and Amy gasps as I hold her, twirling her back with me.

Phew, the car passed by.

Amy was in a daze, I helped her up.

Blinking my eyes, why are they looking at me like that?

"That was…fast." Dean mumbles, "Sie, you are such a smart one." Vier adds, giving me a thumbs up while Amy pouts, hugging me tight. "I didn't even realize one was approaching." I blink my eyes.

"Uh…o-okay." I mumble, but my eyes find their way back to his. I gasped, he was already staring.

Right into my soul, that's what I felt.

And it took my breath away.
