Chapter 14 - The Featherwing and Fuka

"What. . Is it?"

Tris asked, his ears flickering lightly. Remaining focused on it, it was pretty, very pretty. But he couldn't quite tell what it was. It looked like some weird type of steel. If it even was actually steel.

"No idea! My mother called it the Featherwing. – Some kind of gift she passed down to me! It was a cute thing right before I left to come here..."

Nora spoke, flicking it as it just wiggled around! The metal still did not seem to make sense in Tris's eyes. So he gave a small sigh, his eyes looking over at Fuka, who seemed not to even care that much...

"Never have I seen a type of steel or metal like that... Peculiar. But I suppose I haven't seen much steel either, I suppose! But it is pretty! That's for sure."

Tris spoke, his eyes still focused on it, it felt quite. . . Peculiar, but he didn't bother inspecting it more, he wasn't one to stare at a metal piece for hours. But it did pique his interest a tiny bit. – Nora, on the other side just smiled lightly, arranging it around her neck.

"Ah, I have no idea where she got it from, probably something random or bought it somewhere. But it has been in my family for quite some time. I think more than ten years. Simply got stuck to it!"

Nora spoke with a smile, clearly happy having it back in her possession. It must have been at least a small bit stressful of a move. Mainly within the dorms away from home. – But it seemed to have given her a better mood.

"Mhm! Seems it makes you quite happy having it back in your hands, eh? Similar to how I would be without Fuka, I would say! She is a little chaotic gremlin but also extremely lovely. . . I would have a hard time going through the day without her, or even sleeping."

The man spoke rather swiftly. He didn't look embarrassed; that was the truth after all. – Fuka was a part of him, a part of his power in the end. He could hardly imagine a life without her after growing up with her at his side. – Fuka? She just looked over at him, clearly, if she had a face, she would be smiling, she knows he cares about her a lot! And so does she.

Nora just smiled, she found it cute. In the end, it was a man and a family member, that's what a pet was in the end. Family! – Perhaps she should consider getting a cat. . . Though highly likely it will end up too attached to her, she can't take a cat around everywhere in the end.

"It doesss! I missed it sooo muchhh! Though I feel like I'm exaggerating a lot... But it is fine now that I have it back! – I first forgot it at home... Reason, just now I managed to get my hands on it. Mother says it is special! Perhaps why she gave it to me. A charm of sorts."

She was lying, but Tris couldn't tell in the end... Not now, at least. There was something more standing to the necklace. – Fuka looked at it and then just didn't care. She knew something they didn't. Or, well, knew two sides of a coin, while the two only knew one. But speak she didn't, perhaps only time will tell why...

"Ah, a lucky charm! I suppose that's quite common when children leave home to study further from it. Just leaving them something to remember and care about! And maybe it is true that it will bring you luck! If not, still a piece you should cherish deeply, young lady!"

Tris spoke, giving a sweet smile. He was not given a good luck charm from home, to be honest, all he had were just his things. His adoptive parents believed he could take care of himself! To an extent that is, in truth, he was still a child. No matter how magical or immortal.

He was a child, simple, blunt and harsh truth. As much as the world wanted to push him or as strong as he could get, he still was too young to understand so many things. After all, even before the fall, some gods were still learning, and some still are today.

"Exactly! Will most likely need it, taking how close school is approaching... It's Wednesday in the end! And I'll most likely trip a few times before I even get close to reaching my classes."

She spoke with a bitter chuckle, two kids. Both had their own weaknesses. One was blind, one simply had to deal with other matters. But school was going to be difficult for both of them. It was one thing they could agree on without even using words or debating it.

Fuka knew it as she looked in between the two, for a few seconds at Tris, then at Nora. She felt almost bad, in the end, it wasn't her fault. But bad she did feel, why? Feeling useless, this was something she really couldn't help Tris with. It made her. . Sad! – After all, she really wished to help, it was her second job! Taking care of him. – Cause no one else was there to do it.

"Ah. . You are reminding me it is approaching even faster... Aparently we also have to do shit Sunday, picking up our books, and schedules for that matter. It isn't fully set, so we have to move around a lot in the first two or three weeks... If not more. I'm PRETTY sure we're in the same class. So I'll just drag you around! Easy fix!"

Tris spoke, half-joking. In the end, yeah, he was going to help her. Not drag her around, though, he wanted her to be able to also do it on her own. Not just always be dependent on someone. If she were, bad things would happen if he had to leave for a week or two, a few days even. He did not want to even think about it.

Nora just chuckled, she knew he would say something like that until Sunday. In the end, he was the type of person to just help her with anything. – Though she was quite independent herself! She could do a lot of things on her own, Tris was just underestimating her! By a large margin.

"Of course, I do need some help! Even if you didn't offer, I would've bullied you into it! I am just a little blind lady in the end! But don't think I can't make you help me even if you don't want to! At worst, I cook the fox!"

Nora spoke with a grin. Fuka suddenly blinked, shaking her head, seemingly ready to just jump at her. Tris's hand moved swiftly, grabbing the fox's paws and just hugging her closer to his chest with a chuckle.

"Nooo! My little lady! Not Fuka! She is too cute to die yet! From how many souls she's eaten, she has a whole immortal life ahead of her! Too much time to die now! Monster!"

Tris spoke, clearly exaggerating with his words, but both were laughing. Even Fuka began just letting out some small laugh-like sounds. Nora just smiled once more, giving a small cough, seemingly choking out of laughter for a moment.

"Mhmm! Then you are going to help me and do as I say! And be a verryyy good guide! Or else it's cooked Fox for dinner! Baked into a meat pie! And trust me, I would do it!"

She kept jesting, with a smile, arranging the blind fold on her face, seemingly, these two will get along quite well. Or should I say three? Fuka counts! Dosent she? Just cause she's immortal doesn't mean she can't be considered.

Tris gave a deep breath, attempting to regain his composure as he hugged Fuka to his chest, seemingly slowly but surely managing to regain it. Just straightened his back and gave Nora a smile once more.

Fuka just wiggled her tail! Jumping forward onto the table! Then she proceeded to curl her body up into a small ball with a huff. Almost trying to intentionally cause trouble. But hopefully she was just playful.

"Yeah, yeah, I will believe you! You cook the fox if I do not help you! My poor baby was threatened with such cruelty. Only witches should be boiled in a pot of hot water! Hmph! – Though I'm very sure there will be many witches in classes... Some sitting, some being teachers."

On that comment, Nora almost choked, damn. Tris was truly rude! With that language, some teachers would probably spray him with soap in his mouth at this point. But he did not show any hint of regret. In the end, there was nothing to regret. Witches deserve the burning treatment! And boiling treatment! Most of them, at least.

Fuka, on the other side, just stared daggers into Tris's soul. In the end, SHE WAS one of his basic runic teachers. . . Did he just make HER a witch?!
