Chapter 13 - Creating a Common Language

When English becomes insufficient, Adnan starts teaching Shizuka Turkish. The first word: "Good morning." Shizuka repeats it over and over. Adnan also learns Japanese words: Ohayou gozaimasu, arigatou, gomen nasai… Each new word is like taking another step into their hearts. They memorize the names of the subway stations together, and they say the names of the vegetables to each other when they shop at the supermarket. This learning process forces them to laugh together, be patient, and grow together – and this strengthens their bond.
