Chapter 9 - The News

Eve woke up feeling refreshed after a good night's sleep. She had enjoyed her breakfast and was now checking her emails. As she scrolled through her inbox, her eyes widened with excitement. She had passed her interview and was set to resume work after the weekend.

Eve's first instinct was to share the news with Roman. But why? She didn't understand why she was behaving this way. She could have called Isabella, her closest friend. Instead, she thought of Roman, the invisible presence that had been hovering around her.

As she pondered this strange feeling, Roman appeared beside her. Eve's heart skipped a beat as she felt a flutter in her chest. Roman's eyes sparkled with amusement. "You look like you're on cloud nine," he said, his voice low and teasing. "What's got you so flush?"

Eve's cheeks grew warmer, and she tried to brush off the feeling. But Roman's gaze lingered on hers, making her feel like he could see right through her. She hesitated, unsure how to respond. Should she share her news with him? And why did she want to so badly?

Eve took a deep breath and decided to share her news with Roman. "I got the job," she said, trying to contain her excitement.

Roman's face lit up with a warm smile. "Congratulations, Dr. Eve! I knew you'd nail it."

Eve's cheeks flushed at the praise. "Thanks, Roman. I'm really excited."

Roman chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "You look like you're going to burst. I'm glad I could be here to share in your joy."

Eve's blush deepened as Roman's gaze lingered on hers. "You're...you're really happy for me, aren't you?" she asked, feeling a little self-conscious.

Roman's smile grew wider. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying the view," he teased, his eyes drifting to her flushed cheeks.

Eve's face grew even warmer, and she looked away, trying to compose herself. "Roman, stop it," she said, laughing.

Roman chuckled, his voice low and husky. "Sorry, couldn't resist. You look adorable when you're happy."

Eve's heart skipped a beat at the compliment, and she felt a flutter in her chest. She wasn't sure how to react to Roman's teasing, but she couldn't deny the way it made her feel.

Eve's phone rang, breaking the spell of her conversation with Roman. She smiled as she saw Isabella's name on the screen. "Hey, Izzy! What's up?"

"Eve, I'm so sorry to disturb you so early," Isabella said, her voice apologetic. "I'm at the airport, and I just realized I didn't tell you I was coming. I wanted it to be a surprise."

Eve's eyes widened in surprise. "You're here? When did you arrive?"

"Just now," Isabella replied. "I was wondering if you could come pick me up. I'm so sorry for not giving you a heads-up earlier."

Eve laughed. "It's okay, Izzy. I'd love to come get you. But you should've told me! I would've prepared something for you."

Isabella chuckled. "That's why I didn't tell you. I wanted to surprise you. Besides, I know you're always busy. I figured it'd be easier to just show up."

Eve smiled, feeling happy to see her friend. "I'll be there soon. Which terminal are you at?"

Isabella gave her the details, and Eve promised to be there shortly. As she hung up the phone, Roman raised an eyebrow. "Friend of yours?"

Eve nodded. "Isabella. She's at the airport, and I need to go pick her up."

Roman's expression was thoughtful, but he said nothing, simply watching Eve as she prepared to leave.

Eve got ready to leave for the airport when Roman appeared beside her. He glanced at her outfit and raised an eyebrow. "You're going to pick up your friend looking like that?"

Eve felt a surge of self-consciousness as Roman's gaze lingered on her dress. "What's wrong with it?" she asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

Roman's smile was teasing. "It's a bit...short, don't you think?"

Eve's cheeks flushed as she looked down at her dress. She had chosen it because it was comfortable, but now she wasn't so sure. "Maybe I'll change," she said, starting to head towards her closet.

But Roman's voice stopped her. "Don't change," he said, his green eyes locking onto hers. "You look...stunning."

Eve's heart skipped a beat as Roman's gaze held hers. She felt a shiver run down her spine as he continued to look at her, his eyes seeming to see right through her.

"I like the dress," Roman said, his voice low and husky. "You should wear it."

Eve's face grew warmer, and she felt a flutter in her chest. She wasn't sure what to make of Roman's words, but a part of her was glad she wasn't changing. She took a deep breath and smiled, feeling a sense of confidence wash over her. "Okay, I'll wear it," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Roman's smile was approval, and he nodded, his eyes never leaving hers. "Good choice," he said, his voice full of warmth.
