It was morning in Gravity Falls, everyone was getting up to do whatever they did on a normal day. For the residents of the Mystery Shack, they were doing something different instead of having a normal breakfast. The events that had happened a couple of days ago with the Gnomes wanting to Mabel to be their Queen, was still fresh in their minds. Nothing else like that had happened since then, but they wondered what else the town or surrounding forest had to offer.
Everyone, minus Stan, was having breakfast, but they stopped once Mabel had an idea, which involved syrup.
"Are you ready for the ultimate challenge?" Leia asked, as she held her syrup bottle.
"I'm always ready!" Lucas said with his bottle of syrup.
"Syrup race!" They all cheered.
Lynn was the referee for this, and said," Alright, first to get a drop in their mouth wins. No cheating. On your mark… get set… go!"
The first pair of twins of the Loud family opened their mouths, raised the bottles to their mouths, and waited for the first drop.
"Chug, chug , chug!" Their siblings chanted.
"C'mon Mabel, I bet some money on you." Lola said.
"You can do it bro!" Luna encourage.
"C'mon Luke, show her what you are made of!" Lincoln encouraged his older brother.
Both Lucas and Leia were neck and neck but Leia got the idea of tapping the bottom of the bottle and the syrup dripped on her tongue.
"Yes! Cough… I did it!" Mabel said and got hoisted on Luan's shoulders.
"Ha! Pay up suckers." Lola said triumphantly.
"What?! C'mon, that's poor sportsmanship! I said no cheating!" Lynn said.
"Sorry sis, but you didn't say how not to cheat." Mabel said with a triumphed smile.
"Fine, stupid technicalities." Lynn grumbled and handed some money to a happy Lola.
"Hey guys check this out." Lincoln said and showed everyone an article in the Newspaper.
Leia gasped and said," Human-sized hamster balls? I'm human-sized!"
"I guess you'll be, on a roll if you get that. Ha, ha!" Luan joked, and everyone minus Mabel groaned.
"Ooo, does it come in turquoise?" Leni asked.
"Do you literally know how much those things cost?" Lori said, as she looked at the price.
Lincoln rolled his eyes and said," No, not that. This." He said showed everyone an article of a monster photo contest, and the reward. "Basically we could win $1,000 if we can get a photo of a monster or some other type of creature. If only we discovered and took pictures of Plessy when we went to Lake Eddy."
What none of them knew was that Plessy was real, and Lily had encountered the Sea Monster. The youngest Loud had tried to get Lincoln attention once they had gotten rescued by Flip, and were heading home. But Lincoln had dismissed her, and Plessy had swam away, which was a missed opportunity.
"If only bro, if only. Did we get photo's of those Gnomes from the other day?" Dipper asked.
"Nope, but I did save a pointy hat and some beard hair from them." Leia said, and then held them out for everyone to see. Why she had them at that exact moment, no one knew.
"Why?" Lori asked weirded out.
"I wanted a hat for Mr. Coconut's." Luan said, as she held up the Dummy in question.
"If you think I'll be wearing that? Then you're funnier in the head than I expected." It said.
"While the hair is for Lisa's study of the town." Mabel added.
Everyone looked at the resident genius for her explanation.
"If Mythological creatures are indeed real, then the most appropriate course of action is to study them. Our brother's book that he located in the forest has adequate information regarding these phenomenon's. But I am thorough, and I require specimen samples from the field." Lisa explained.
"You're not going to publish your findings are you?" Luna asked.
Lisa scoffed and said," Of course not, I would be the laughing stock of the scientific community. The Nobel Prize Committee will also revoke my award. This is merely a personal study."
Grunkle Stan came into the room in a shirt and in his boxers and said," Morning knuckleheads, I heard yells of victory that could only come from winning a bet, who won?"
"Leia did and I won ten dollars." Lola said proudly.
"Heh, that's my little gambler." Grunkle Stan said impressed and ruffled Lola hairs.
"What, hey!" she said and fixed her hair.
"Now, do any of you know what day it is?" Stan asked.
"Ooo, is it Wednesday?" Leni asked.
"Um… happy anniversary?" Dipper said.
"Mazel tov!" Mabel said.
Stan hit Dipper on the head with a newspaper and walked to the fridge and said," It's Family Fun Day, genius's! We're cuttin' off work and having one of those, you know… bonding-type deals."
Normally they would be happy with getting off work, but considering what kind of person their Great Uncle was, they had the right to be skeptical.
"This isn't like the last time is it? Because I will literally not make counterfeit money again. I was lucky they only let us off with a warning, I could've lost my spot for Fairway." Lori said.
Stan had somehow roped them all into making counterfeit money one night, but unfortunately they were caught by the police. They had to stay in the County Jail for the night, and were luckily let off with only a warning.
"The County Jail was so cold." Mabel said with a shudder.
"I thought it was nice, it felt like a dungeon, and I also felt the soul crushing atmosphere there." Lucy creepily said which made Lori and Lana move their seats away from her a bit.
"Like I'm glad we left, I couldn't stand being there for another second. I do not look good in Prison Orange." Leni said and shuttered.
"We were in the County Jail for only a day." Lincoln pointed out.
"I know but orange is like, such an ugly color to wear… but it looks good on you Lincoln." Leni added the last part with blush, once she realized her brother wore orange, and the look he was giving her.
Grunkle Stan pinched the bridge of his nose and said," No it isn't like that, and I will admit, I've haven't been the best summer caretaker. But this time, it's going to be fun. Now, who wants to put on some blindfolds and get into my car?" He said the last part cheerfully.
"Ya!" Everyone said cheerfully.
"Wait, what?" Dipper said, realizing what he said.
"Say again, dude?" Luna asked, wondering if she heard right.
Everyone was now in a Minivan Stan had purchased or however he got it once the Loud Siblings had arrived. Stan was driving, while the others were sitting in the back, and were wearing blindfolds, so they wouldn't know where their Great Uncle was taking them.
"Y'know for the short time we've been with our Grunkle Stan, we've learned a few things from him and this situation is one. When he takes us somewhere or decides to do something together, it usually has an ulterior motive to it and today is not an exception." Dipper said to the readers.
"I gotta say, this is pretty fun! With this blindfold on, I feel like my other senses are heightened. I can see with my fingers!" Mabel said.
"Like, let me try!" Leni excitedly said, and held her hands out, and felt around. "Like, I feel something squishy… ah!"
She accidently found Luan's trigger for the Squirt Flower on her shirt, and she got water on her face once she activated it. Luan would've said something, but she was too busy laughing to say anything.
"Oh man! Comedy gold!" Luan said as she wiped a tear from her eye.
"Like, so not ok!" Leni whined.
Lincoln chuckled, and then asked Lori," Hey Lori, did you text Bobby and Ronnie Anne about the lake?"
"Yep, he, Ronnie Anne, and Soos are going to be there." Lori said.
"Oh? Why did you want to know little bro? Is there someone in particular you wanted to see?" Luna said teasingly and poked Lincoln's shoulder.
Lincoln rolled his eyes and said," Very funny. Like I've been saying before, Ronnie Anne is not my girlfriend, nor do I like her like that."
"If you want my advice on love, it works for some people but not me, it's dumb. I once married a girl for 48 hours in Vegas, but it was a ruse to steal my car and winnings I got at the Casino I met her at. My advice for you kids, enjoy it when you're young and not when you're old and have Cataracts." Grunkle Stan said with shrug.
Everyone looked at each other, or they thought they did, due to the blindfolds, not just because of the useless advice that was given to them, but the fact that their Great Uncle had admitted he had Cataracts, and was driving.
"Wait, Grunkle Stan, did you just say you have Cataracts?" Dipper asked uncertainly.
Grunkle Stan started to drive on the wrong side of the road and then swerved back into the right lane when a truck came barreling down the road and the kids screamed.
"Sure do kid. Wait… is that a Woodpecker?" He said and drove through wooden guardrail and into the forest with the kids screaming in terror again.
After going through the forest and then back onto the road, they soon made it to wherever Stan was taking them. Everyone got out of the van, which was covered in branches and sticks, shaken up and relieved to be out of the car.
"Next time… I drive." Lori said as she took a couple of breaths to calm down and everyone nodded.
"Alright kids, you can take off your blindfolds now."
Everyone took off their blindfolds, and found their Great Uncle to be wearing fishing attire. They also noticed they were at the town lake and the most noticeable thing was a huge banner that said 'FISHING SEASON: OPENING DAY'.
"The reason we're here is because it's fishin' season starts today!" Grunkle Stan.
The kids were both confused and surprised, out of all the things they thought their Great Uncle would take them, they didn't expect this.
"Fishing?" Both Lincoln and Dipper question in confusion.
"For once I'm lost for words. This is unexpected." Luna said.
Lynn didn't look interested, and said." "I know fishing is considered a sport for some. But I never got into fishing, doesn't catch my interest." Lynn shrugged.
She then realized what she had said, due to noticing Luan and Mabel giggling a little and said, "That joke was unintentional."
"It's also gross, why would I catch smelly fish with worms. Bleh!" Lola said in disgust.
"Are you kidding? That's the best part! The worms are a good snack while waiting for the fish." Lana said excitedly, and licked her lips at the mention of worms, while Lola looked grossed out at what her twin said.
"There are exactly 108 different species of Freshwater Fish in the State of Oregon. I wonder how many there are in this very lake." Lisa said and wrote something down in her Notebook.
"I know fishing is considered a sport for some. But I never got into fishing, doesn't catch my interest." Lynn shrugged.
She then noticed Luan and Mabel giggling a little and said, "That joke was unintentional."
Lori looked suspicious, and asked." What're you literally playing at, Grunkle Stan?"
After living with the man for a short amount time, not once had he been interested in bonding with any of them. Lori, and she knew her siblings thought there was an alternative motive.
Stan wasn't deterred by his grandnieces and nephews comments. "Aw c'mon it'll be fun. The whole town's here!"
Everyone looked around and saw various town's folk around the lake or on the shore. Lazy Susan, a waitress at the diner had a frying pan with her, and looked to be wanting to catch fish with it. Toby Determined, who was a local reporterwas taking pictures of a man who caught a big fish but soon fell into the lake when the flash of the camera took him by surprise.
There was also a big burly man who happened to be Wendy's father, Manly Dan, was fishing with his sons, but had actually grabbed a fish out of the water with his bare hands, and then started to beat it up. His sons cheered him on with another man in a different boat cheering him on too.
"See, that's some quality family bonding!" Stan pointed out.
"Why do you want to bond with us all of a sudden?" Luna asked with crossed arms.
"Come on, this is gonna be great! I've never had fishing buddies before. The guys from the lodge won't go with me: they don't "like" or "trust" me." Stan said.
"I think he actually wants to fish with us." Mabel whispered to Dipper and Lincoln, who nodded in realization.
"Hey, I know what'll cheer you sad sacks up." Stan handed the kids hats that had their names on it." There, Pines/Loud family fishing hats! That's hand stitching. I could be good with making clothing too, huh Leni?"
Leni looked at her hat with a raised eyebrow and saw the 'I' in her name peeled off a little. It needed work, but she was touched that her Great Uncle had tried to make something for her.
"Needs a little work Grunkle Stan, but overall, good first try." She said with a smile and put it on but had to take off because a pin poked her head.
Lola thought otherwise, and said." Not my style, brown isn't my color."
"So, just gonna be all of us, the hats on a boat for ten hours!"
"Ten hours?" Lucas said, a little fearfully
"I brought the joke book!" Stan said and held a book called '1001 Yuk' em Ups, Approved by Uncles' joke book.
Everyone eyes widened in fear, even Lucy's eyes were semi visible through her bangs, except for Luan who eyes widened in delight.
Before anyone could voice their objections someone started screaming something and they all looked to see a short old man that looked like a Hillbilly running from the docks yelling and crashing into things.
"I SEEN IT! I SEEN IT AGAIN! The Gravity Falls Gobblewonker! Come quick before it scrabdoodles away! He yelled and started dancing.
"Aww… he's doing a happy jig!" Mabel exclaimed.
"It looks fun." Leni agreed.
Old man McGucket ran to them and yelled," NOO! It's a jig of grave danger!" He yelled which made both Mabel and Leni back up in fear and confusion.
Lori and Luna, who were closets to the younger siblings, moved them away from the Old Coot.
A man came out of the main lake building and started spraying Old Man McGucket with a spray bottle and said," Hey, hey! Now what did I tell you about scaring my customers? This is your last warning dad!"
"But I got proof this time, by gummity!" McGucket yelled and ran to the docks with some people following him.
"Well, as if this town couldn't get any nuttier, we met the nuttiest of them all! Ha, ha!" Luan said and her siblings minus, Grunkle Stan and Mabel, who chuckled, groaned and went to check it out with a shrug.
"I'm telling you Luan, keep that up and you'll make your own Joke book." Stan praised.
"I agree sis." Leia said and Luan smiled in appreciation.
When they got close enough to the docks they found a broken boat.
"It chawed my boat up to smitheroons, and shim-shammed over to Scuttlebutt Island! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE ME!"
Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland were in the water on a Police Boat, and had witnessed the scene.
"Attention all units! We got ourselves a crazy old man!" Sheriff Blubs mocked, and Durland chuckled.
Everyone, minus the Loud's, laughed at Old Man McGucket while his son shook his head in shame. The Old Man mumbled and walked off, disappointed that no believed him.
"Well, that literally just happened." Lori said with a raised eyebrow.
"That was a minute of my life I won't get back." Lola deadpanned.
"I agree." Lucy said from behind her and Lola jumped in fright.
Lori sighed and was about to walk over to him when she heard someone calling her name and saw Bobby waving at her. He was with Wendy and her friends, who were at a Volleyball court.
"C'mon babe! We're waiting on you!" He called.
"Catch you guy's later." She said as she ran to them, with Lynn and Leni following her, so the former can play Volleyball. While the latter would be able to cheer Lynn on whichever team she was on.
Also, the both of them found fishing gross.
"Wait for me! I want to play some Volleyball!" Lynn called and ran after them.
Stan sighed and said," Well it just leaves us then. What about you guys?" Stan said hopefully.
"Sure thing, I want to play with some worms and try to catch a fish with my bare hands like that Lumberjack!" Lana said and got into the boat.
Lola sighed and said," Fine, but you better not put any of those icky worms on my hair." She said and followed her twin.
"I will as well, I'll see if I can make a chemical that can destroy all the waste and or disposable products in the lake." Lisa said and got in.
"I'm not into fishing, but listening to jokes sounds good." Luan said.
The only ones, who hadn't gone with them, were Dipper, Lincoln, Mabel and Luna. The former two were telling them about what McGucket said.
"So, you dudes think you can win that prize money you found in the paper, by finding and taking a photo of the Lake Monster." Luna summed up.
"Pretty much. I mean, the prize money is $10,000, we can split the money between the four of us. Can you guys imagine what you can do with it?" Lincoln asked.
Luna and Mabel thought of it.
Mabel would've used the prize money to buy herself the Human Sized Hamster Ball she had seen earlier for herself.
Luna thought about it, and her mind immediately went to being able to perform for larger crowds and become famous. She blushed a little when her daydream self had Sam with her, and they kissed after Luna dipped her.
Lucy's idea for the money was to buy a new coffin she had her eyes on for a while.
The both of them, with the exception of Lucy, smiled.
"Guys, I am one million percent on board with this!" Leia said.
"Count me in!" Luna said.
"I'm in. Whoo." Lucy said.
Dipper looked at Stan and the others, and said," Maybe next time, Grunkle Stan. But we hope you guys have fun."
They all missed the slightly saddened look Stan had, but he was glad that a couple of his grandnieces decided to come along. Once the boat took off, the five monster hunters started to chant.
"Monster Hunt! Monster Hunt!" They all, minus Lucy chanted excitedly.
"Monster Hunt!" Old Man McGucket chanted, as he joined in.
The five of them stared at him in confusion.
"Monster… eh… I'll go." He said, and left.
"Well, all we need is a boat." Lincoln said.
The sound of horn then got their attention, and they looked to see a boat approaching, and the person driving it was Soos Ramirez. And surprisingly, Ronnie Anne was on the boat.
"You dudes say somethin' about a monster hunt?" Soos said.
"Soos!" Mabel greeted
"Wassup, hambone! If ya need a boat, you can totally use mine. it's got a steering wheel, chairs; normal boat stuff." Soos greeted.
"Hey Ronnie, didn't peg you as someone who was interested in boats." Lincoln said.
Ronnie Anne shrugged, and said," I wasn't interested in hanging out with Bobby and the others. Soos asked if I wanted to go on his boat, and I agreed. So, what's this about a Monster Hunt?"
"All right, all right, let's think this through. Ya kids could go waste your time on some epic-monster-finding adventure, or you could spend the day learning how to tie knots and skewer worms with your Great Uncle Stan!" Stan tried to persuade them.
The remaining Loud's who wanted to go looking for the monster looked at each other, then at Soos and his boat, and then Stan. They then looked at Scuttlebutt Island, and grinned at each other.
They soon found themselves on Soos's boat, with Soos driving the boat to the island.
"We made the right choice!" Mabel said.
"Prize money here we come!" Dipper and Lincoln said.
Ronnie Anne raised a brow at them; sure she was interested in looking to see if there was any proof of this lake monster. Even though she was worried about what will happen if they encounter it. She was still shocked at the fact that Gnomes and other magical/mythical creatures were real. But the prize money they mentioned was enticing. She also felt that Stan wanted to spend time with his Grandnephews and Nieces. This was sorta shocking to her, due to knowing the man for a short time, and he didn't seem interested, but she was wrong before.
But she also had the feeling the others would soon realize it. But until then, getting some proof and a prize wasn't so bad.
Meanwhile Stan grumbled that more of his family decided not to stay, but he was glad that some decided to stay.
"Alright, which one of you wants to start first?" Stan asked.
Lana held up her hand and said," Ooo, ooo, me! And you don't even have to teach me, I done this before."
Stan nodded in approval. "Alright kiddo, cast away."
Lana put on her fishing cap, latched a worm onto the hook and threw the cast backward, and then forward, and the line went into the water.
Grunkle Stan looked impressed and said," Nice ca-"
"My Tiara!" Lola exclaimed in horror.
Stan and the others looked at the pageant girl, who was missing her tiara.
Realizing she was the one to accidently to do it, Lana chuckled sheepishly.
"Sorry Lols."
Back the group heading to Scuttlebutt Island, the excitement of possibly finding the legendary creature, and the possibility of money was in the air.
"Luna, a little, man with a plan music?" Lincoln said.
"You got it bro." She said and started played her Guitar.
"We're off to find the Monster!" Dipper said.
"We're gonna win the photo contest!" Mabel exclaimed.
"Right on!" Luna said and raised her fist.
"Ya." Lucy monotoned
"Do any of you dudes have sunscreen?" Soos asked.
The Loud's looked at each other, realizing they didn't bring any.
Ronnie came to the rescue when she pulled out a bottle, and said," Don't worry, I came prepared."
"Awesome, thanks Ronnie!" Leia said and they continued on.
What they didn't notice was a strange shape had swam by under the boat and then disappeared.
Back with the Loud's who decided to stay on dry land, Lynn had quickly acquainted herself with Wendy and her group of friends. And so far, she had been doing her best as usual with the sport.
"Rally 2! Coming up!" Lynn said and spiked the ball.
"Oh no you don't Loud, humph!" Wendy said and hit it.
"Nate, coming at you!" Lee, who was one of Wendy's friends said.
"I got it bro, take this!" He said and got it over the net.
"I got it, I got it!" Thompson said and was about to slap it but it went over his head and landed on the ground.
"Dude! Thompson, get your head in the game!" Robbie said.
"Booya! Another point for us!" Lynn cheered.
Leni and Tambry were on the side, Leni was cheering for Lynn, while Tambry was texting, and didn't look interested. But it looked like she was both watching and texting at the same time.
Lori and Bobby were sitting in a shady spot near the game, they were both watching, and just spending some time together.
"Ah, this is literally nice." Lori happily said.
Bobby nodded as he smiled as well, and he hugged his girlfriend tighter. It was moments like these that the couple liked, when they had time to themselves, and weren't interrupted by their families. It was hard, considering after Bobby moved to the city, they weren't able to see each other in person that often. But, now that Lori was going to college, and even though she and Bobby would be closer, the eldest Loud was still going to be busy. So the couple had to settle with phone or video calls. But the silver lining of this trip that the both of them were able to spend as much time together.
"You said it babe. But I gotta ask. What was going on with you guys and Stan?" Bobby asked.
Lori rolled her eyes, and said," He literally dragged us out here to go fishing with him and bond.
Bobby raised a brow, and asked," What's wrong with that?"
"You've spent time with him right? He's conman and he doesn't seem the type to want to spend time with us. I literally think he has an ulterior motive. He managed to rope Luan, the twins and Lisa into it. While the others are going out to find a lake monster, which I'm literally sure that old prospector was making up." Lori said.
Bobby gave his girlfriend a conflicted look, and said," I don't know babe. I can see how Stan can look shifty. But he's still your family, and he opened his doors for you guys. Not only that, it sounds like he actually wants to spend time with you guys. So I don't think he had something up his sleeve."
Now Lori looked conflicted, and she looked next to her, which showed that the hats that Stan had made for them. She was planning on putting it away somewhere, but she didn't have the heart to not let it go. Lynn and Leni had asked her to look after theirs as well. Thinking about it now, Bobby was right, Stan was still family, and he did go out of his way to get them all out here, and he did looked excited about spending time with them. And all she and the others who didn't go with him pretty much ditched him.
Lori sighed, feeling bad now. She gave Bobby a kiss on the cheek, and said," Your right Boo-Boo Bear. I'm going to get the others, and apologize to our Great Uncle."
She got up, picked up the hats, and went to get her other two sisters, while Bobby gave his girlfriend a proud look.
"So when you feel a tug, reel that puppy in. You got it Lola?" Stan said.
"Yeah, I think I do, what are we going to do with it once we catch it?" Lola asked.
"What fish are meant for, we catch, gut, fry or however you like it and then eat' em." Stan explained.
Lola grimaced, looked at her twin and said," Yeah you do that, that's gross." Lana grinned at getting that job.
"Grunkle Stan, I suggest we move a couple of meters closer to the area with the birds circling around, it's their eating grounds and we'll find a concentrated amount of fish." Lisa said.
"Yeah I find that area fishy." Luan said and chuckled.
"That's a good one, haven't heard good jokes like that in a while. Thanks for the tip Lisa, your alright for a Brainiac." Stan said
"Thank you." Lisa said with a slight smile.
"Thanks Grunkle Stan, you're the best." Luan said.
"Alright then, First Mate Lana. Turn to port and go where your sister said." Grunkle Stan said.
"Aye, aye Captain!" Lana said with a salute and turned on the engine.
"You know what Grunkle Stan, I actually hated coming here for the summer but I'm really starting to enjoy it. Thanks for taking us here." Lola said and hugged him with the others following suit.
Stan patted her back and smiled a little but soon went back to his normal face so no one would see him but he knew his other Grandnieces saw it but didn't mind.
After the camera and who was in charge debacle the S.S. Cool Dude and it's passengers were approaching Scuttlebutt Island. The five Loud siblings and Ronnie Anne were at the front of the boat, watching for anything.
"Man dudes, this is giving me some Thriller vibes." Luna said with a shiver.
"Yeah, definitely feel something off here." Ronnie Anne agreed.
She wondered if this was what her Abuela felt when she felt bad vibes sometimes.
"I like it." Lucy said with a tiny grin.
Leia didn't seem to mind, or she wasn't paying attention, due to her being busy using a Pelican as a Ventriloquist, as she hoped to lighten the mood.
"Hey! How's it going?" As the Pelican, "It's going awesome! Bow bow, buh bow bow!"
"Sis, you should leave the little dude alone, you don't know where it's been." Luna said.
"Aw I don't mind! Hey, look I'm drinking water!" Mabel then drank some while talking through the bird. "Twinkle, twinkle little sta-"
Mabel then ended up choking on some, and started to cough as the Pelican flew away.
Luna patted her on the back and said," Let it out. Take deep breaths."
Lincoln looked at his sister and said," Aren't you supposed to be doing lookout?"
"Look out!" Mabel said and threw a volley ball at her younger brother, and it hit his arm, which caused him to both rub it, and glare at Mabel.
Mabel giggled and said," But seriously. I'm on it."
They all lost their balance when the boat jolted to a sudden stop, due to it crashing into the shore of the island.
Everyone started to get out, while Leia said," See? We're here! I'm a lookout genius! Hamster ball, here we come!"
Lincoln looked at Ronnie Anne, and asked," So, what do you plan on getting with your share?"
Ronnie Anne thought about it for a moment, and then said," Probably buy a new skateboard, and get tickets for Twelve is Midnight concert for Sid and I."
They all walked, and took in the area. The area was thick with fog, and it was hard to see, but luckily, Dipper had a lantern to light the area.
Luna shivered and said," Dudes, the creepy vibes keep comin. I'm pretty sure Lucy would love to be here."
They then come to large sign, which was nailed to a tree that said 'Scuttlebutt Island.'
Soos stepped in front of it, and said," Dudes, check it out, Butt Island." He said as he covered the 'Scuttle' part of the sign.
Mabel and Luna laughed at that, while Lincoln chuckled, Lucy didn't do anything and Ronnie Annie snorted in amusement. The only one who didn't was Dipper, who was busying looking around.
"Nice one, man." Luna praised.
"Soos you rapscallion! Hey! Why aren't you laughing? Are you scared?" Mabel teased Dipper.
Dipper waved her off," You, right! I'm not-"
Mabel poked him in the nose, blew a raspberry and said," Yeah, you are!"
Dipper tried to defend himself, but he dropped the lantern as Mabel continued to poke him," Quit! Stop! Mabel!"
Luna giggled at her siblings antics, but then froze up when growling noise was heard in the distance.
She looked at Soos and said," Dude, please tell me that was your stomach."
Soos shook his head and said," Nah, my stomach normally sounds like whale noises."
Both she and Mabel put their heads to the Handyman's stomach and listened. Sure enough, his stomach did sound like a whale.
"Wow, wicked." Luna said impressed.
"So majestic." Mabel marveled.
A Possum then grabbed the lantern, and ran away.
"Our lantern! I can't see anything!" Dipper yelped, as the area became slightly darker.
Soos looked worried, and said," I dunno dude. Maybe this isn't worth it."
Lincoln thought otherwise, and said," We can't back down now. We've come this far. And besides, imagine what will happen when we get the picture."
Both Dipper and Lincoln imagined themselves dressed up as adventurers, and were being interviewed on a talk show.
"Tonight we're with adventure seeking brothers Lucas 'Dipper' Loud and Lincoln Loud. Who both bravely photographed the elusive Gobblewonker! Tell me, what is the secret of success?"
"Well Linc and I run away from nothing." Dipper began.
"Except we ran away from our Grunkle Stan, who we ditched in order to pursue the lake monster." Lincoln said, and showed an unflattering picture of Stan.
"How right you two were to do so. He looked like a real piece of work. I don't often do this, but I feel the need to give you both an award." Charlie said as he gave both boys medals and they got their picture taken.
They were interrupted when something came crashing through the wall. They looked to see Mabel, who looked disheveled and dirty in her giant hamster ball.
"CHARLIE! WHY WON"T YOU INTERVIEW ME?!" She said as she chased after three people who ran away in fear.
Back in the real world, the group stopped imagining their fantasies.
"Well I ain't backing down. Not right now." Luna said. [1]
"I'm in as well!" Mabel said with a cheer.
"I'm game." Ronnie Anne said.
The group then took off into the fog.
"All right dudes! I'm comin'!" Soos called as he chased after them.
The group was now walking around the area for a few minutes now, but all they found so far was more fog, and the local wildlife. To pass the time, Mabel, Soos, and Luna were singing.
"We're looking around for the Gobblewonker, and get's it's picture so we can win some cash." Luna sang, as she strummed her guitar.
"We hope, to find him, and get my giant hamster ball!" Leia sang in.
"Yo dudes, we got the stuff, to find the monster, wickity, wickity what." Soos rapped.
"That was awesome." Luna said with and high-fived them.
"Yeah, we should form a band, remember when we did that for the family talent show for the Family Fun Fair?" Mabel said.
"Sure do sis, I got to meet Mick Swagger." Luna said with a smile at the memory.
Ronnie Anne looked surprised, and said," Huh really?"
She, Bobby and their mom were at the fair that day, and she would've remembered seeing the musician. She was more of a K-Pop fan, but seeing Mick Swagger would've still been cool.
"What happened?" Soos asked.
"We formed a family band; Luna took control and went overboard. Apologized and we actually won. A guy helped her with apologizing to us and it turned out to be Mick himself. We didn't see him though. We found Luna and dad passed out on the ground and she had the biggest smile when she came to." Lincoln explained.
"Guys, guys, quiet. Do you hear that?" Dipper shushed them, due to hearing something.
The group stopped making noises for a moment, and they were able to hear some type groaning or growl nearby. The noise caused a flock of crows to fly away from a certain area. Lincoln and Dipper nodded at each other, and walked in that direction, with the others following behind them. They soon found themselves near the other end of the island, and they spotted a silhouette of what appeared to be the lake monster in the water amongst the fog. They all hid behind a log, so it wouldn't spot them.
"Okay, I'm not the only one to see that, right?" Ronnie Anne asked to confirm.
"Nope, I saw it too." Lincoln excitedly said.
"Everyone, get your camera's ready!" Lucas said with excitement, as he held up his camera.
Lincoln, Ronnie Anne, Soos, Lucy and Leia took out their cameras, while Luna took out her Phone and turned on its camera setting.
"Ready? GO!"
Soos yelled, jumped over the log and started snapping photos at random. While the five siblings and their friend followed suit and took photos. But as they got closer they discovered the silhouette was just the remains of a wrecked boat with Beavers hanging out on it.
"But… but what was that noise, then? I heard a monster noise!" Dipper said in disbelief.
The noise resonated again and everyone looked around and Luna spotted something.
"Hey dudes, I think it was that." She said.
They looked and saw a Beaver chewing on a rusty old Chainsaw and it activated it from time to time.
"Sweet! Beaver with a chainsaw." Soos said and took a picture of it.
"Hmm, interesting." Lucy said with interest, and took out her poem journal and started to write in it, getting some inspiration.
Both brothers looked at each and sighed, thinking their quest to find a monster was a total bust.
"Maybe that old guy was crazy after all." Dipper said in defeat.
"He did use the word "scrapdoodle". Leia said.
Lincoln sighed, and said," Yeah, I mean from what seen of him since we've been here. The town calls him an 'Old kook'."
"Normally feeling down like this is a good thing, but it doesn't right now. Sigh." Lucy said.
That brought the mood down considerably. The group wondering if this whole adventure was a waste of time.
Meanwhile with Stan and the remaining Loud's, they had decided to play some jokes on some of the other fishermen.
"My fish!" Someone yelled as it was taken away.
Everyone laughed as Lana reeled in the fish and put it with the other fish they stole.
"I knew it, there's fish in dar hills… yikes, even I found that quite bad. Someone better cast me out then. Ha, ha!" Luan said.
"I suggest we try the boat with the face-centered cubic crystal structure." Lisa said, but all she received was blank stares.
Lisa sighed and said," The couple with the diamond ring."
"I gotcha sis, c'mon, mama needs a new ring!" Lana said and casted the line.
"Rosanna, will you marry me?" The man said as he brought out the Diamond ring.
The lady tears up and said," Oh, Reginald! Yes."
Before he could put it on her, Lana's cast snatched it out of his hand she reeled it in.
"Ha! I got it Grunkle Stan!" Lana cheered.
Lola looked at it and said," Wow, that is a beauty. The guy paid well."
"We've should've gone fishing earlier, the other's are missing out." Grunkle Stan said.
Stan's good feeling was soon brought to an end when heard someone yell from a loudspeaker," "This is the Lake Police! Stay where you are!"
"Uh oh… rev up the engines Lana!" Stan ordered.
"You got it!" She said and they took off with the police boat in hot pursuit of them.
"I do feel bad now, Bobby told me what I should and I feel bad now for ditching Grunkle Stan." Lori said and with Leni and Lynn nodding in agreement.
"Yeah, like are we bad people for doing that? What were we thinking?" Leni said.
The three of them were sitting near the dock, after Lori had the talk with Bobby, she got both Leni and Lynn, and explained that what they did was bad.
"Yeah, I mean, I guess Stan wanted to hang out with us. But we just ditched him and the others. But on the bright side, I won the Volleyball game! Woo!" Lynn cheered, but winced when she saw the disapproving looking from her older sisters.
"That was insensitive, wasn't it?"
"Yes it literary was."
Leni had a thought, and said," Like why don't we make it up to Grunkle Stan and the others by going out and apologizing?"
"That's literally a great idea Leni… okay never thought I'd say that. Let's go find a boat." Lori happily said.
Back with the Scuttlebutt Island group, Dipper was sitting on a rock while Soos was taking photos of a Beaver with Mabel, while Luna was skipping rocks onto the water. Lincoln, Ronnie Anne and Lucy were looking out onto the lake.
"What're we gonna say to Grunkle Stan and the others? We ditched them over nothing and they'll make fun of us not finding the monster." Lucas said frustrated.
"I mean, it wasn't all bad. At least we tried." Ronnie Anne tried to help.
"Ronnie's right bro. Sometimes life throws a hard one at you and you have throw one back." Luna said and handed him a rock.
"You're right." Lucas said and tossed the rock into the lake with it skipping three times.
"Hey do you guys feel that," Dipper said, as the rock he was sitting on started to shake.
The rock then sinks and Dipper went into the water. He got back onto dry land with help from the others.
"Whoa, check that out." Luna pointed, at what looked like the Gobblewonker swam away.
"This is it!" Dipper said as he took out his camera and started taking pictures. "C'mon this is our chance."
The Gobblewonker was swimming back and Dipper didn't notice. The others then started to back away.
Lucas then noticed them backing away, and asked, "Hey guys, what wrong?"
"Uhhh?" Luna said.
"Dipper?" Leia said.
Lincoln pointed a shaky finger behind his brother, and said," Uh, bro, you might want to turn around."
Dipper raised a brow and turned around. His eyes widened to see the lake monster had risen from the water. It then let out a roar and Dipper dropped his camera in shock.
"Dios mio." Ronnie Anne gulped in fear.
"Run!" Soos yelled and everyone did.
Dipper took another picture but tripped but was caught by Luna before he fell. He also ended up dropping the camera
"Forget about the camera bro! It's not worth it if it means being eaten by that thing!"
"I totally agree with that sentiment!" Lincoln said.
They jumped into the boat and Soos started driving it backward. Dipper tried to take another photo, but it had a cracked lens.
"Dang'it, cracked lens. Soos take- what are you doing?!" Dipper said in disbelief, as he saw Soos throwing the cameras at the monster.
"Oh! I still got one left! Don't worry, dude!" Soos said and threw a camera at him but it ended up breaking when it hit the side of the boat.
"DRIVE FASTER!" Both Leia and Luna yelled.
"Sigh, the inevitable Our demise is upon us." Lucy said.
"So how long are you supposed to wear that thing?" Lola asked.
Stan had an Ankle Bracelet and he grumbled something and then said," Don't know, Lisa, can you take this thing off without alerting anyone?"
"I would but, I don't want to get into further trouble with Law Enforcement." She said.
"Oh well, I could've been worse." Luan said.
Soos boat and the Gobblewonker sped past them and they soon got all soaked.
"Ahh! My makeup is running!" Lola said in horror.
"Then you better go catch it then! Ha, ha! Am I right Luan?" Lana said.
"Meh, it didn't seem right." She said with a shrug.
"So I just leave the oar and it moves the boat by itself?" Leni said and everyone groaned.
"No, you're supposed to move it yourself." Lori said.
"Oh, ok!" Leni said and started moving the oar but she didn't put it in the water.
"Sometimes I wonder if I'm related to you." Lynn grumbled and Leni didn't seem to hear.
The same boat and monster zoomed past them and they all saw the monster, who made eye contact with them for a split second and they all screamed in terror when it was out of range.
"Pretty sure this is more scarier that that Gnome monster!" Luna said in fear.
"SOOS! BEAVERS!" Dipper yelled.
The boat crashed into the home the Beavers had made. This caused the Beavers to fly into the air, and started to land on the boat, and everyone else, and started to attack everyone.
"YOW!" Luna said as one bit her leg and she kicked it off.
"Ah, Beavers! Oh, no!" Soos yelled as one latched on to his face.
Luna then grabbed the wheel so they wouldn't hit the monster and steered it while, Soos was yelling in pain because of the Beaver on his face, and biting him. Ronnie Anne and Lucy either tried shield themselves or try to get the beavers out of the boat. Dipper managed to throw a couple at the monster but it dived and continued to chase them underwater.
"Don't worry you two! I'll get it!" Mabel said.
She got an oar, and tried to hit two Beavers that were on Luna's head and Dipper was hold one away from himself. They both got the Beavers off of them, but the oar hit them both instead.
"OW! Mabel!" Luna and Dipper cried in pain.
"Hehe… sorry guys." Leia said with a tiny blush.
A dead end soon came into view, and Dipper said to go through the waterfall when he looked at the Journal. They went through it and they all crashed into the dirt. The Gobblewonker soon swam into the cave but it got stuck and roared.
"It's stuck!" Mabel said.
"Ha! Take that your oversized lizard!" Ronnie Anne mocked.
"Ha, ha! Yeah! Wait… it's stuck?" Lucas said and looked for a camera.
"Here bro." Lincoln said as he tossed him his remaining camera.
"Thanks sis!" Dipper said and took pictures excitedly.
"Didja get a good one?" Mabel asked.
"THEY'RE ALL GOOD ONES!" He said and hugged her, and then high-fived Lincoln.
The Gobblewonker was still roaring, and trying to get unstuck, but the sound and movement caused a rock to hit it in the head, and the head falls down. The odd thing was, when the rock hit it, it sounded like something hitting metal. And for some reason, sparks were shooting out as well.
"What the?" Dipper said and touched it. "What?"
"What's wrong?" Mabel asked.
Luna felt the side of it and her eyes widened," Dudes, it feels metallic."
Dipper got on top of it and started to knock it with his foot and sees what Luna meant. And he then went to the other side of it.
"What's the issue dude?!" Soos said.
"I'm fine, just wait a sec!... Guys! You should check this out!" Dipper said from the side.
They found Dipper on the side of the creature and found a handle. Dipper then turned it and steam came out. Both him and Luna opened the trapdoor causing more steam to come out. Once the steam disappeared, they were surprised to discover old man McGucket inside working the controls.
"Work the bellows and the… eh? Aww, Banjo Polish!"
"What the heck?" Luna said confused.
"Wha- yo- you!? You made this? What the din-dang heck is going on?" Dipper said flabbergasted.
Lincoln agreed with his brother, and said," Yeah, why did you do this?"
McGucket scratched the back of his neck and said," Well, I… I, uh… I just wanted attention."
"What do you mean?" Luna asked.
"Well, first I just hootenannied up a biomechanical brain wave generator, and then I learned to operate a stick-shift with ma beard!"
"Okay, yeah. But why did you do it?" Mabel said.
"Well, when you get to be an old fella like me, nobody pays any attention to you anymore. My own son hasn't visited me in months! So I figured maybe I'd catch his fancy with a fifteen ton aquatic robut! Sigh… in retrospect, it seems like a bit contrived. You just don't know the length us old-timers go through for a little quality time with our family." McGucket sadly said.
All five siblings looked at each other with guilty looks, they all then took out the hats that Stan had made for them, and sighed.
"Dudes. I guess the real like monster is you three." Soos said, but yelped in pain when Ronnie Anne elbowed him in the gut.
Soos looked flustered and said," Heh, heh! Sorry, that just like boom! Just popped into my head there."
Lincoln sighed, and said," No, your right Soos. But why didn't you go to your son and talk about how you felt?
"Yeah, family listens to whatever you say, no matter what." Luna said.
"No sirs, I got to work straight on the robut! I made lots of robuts in my day!" He said and pushed a button and a projector showed some newspaper stories. "Like when my life left me and I created a homicidal Pterodactyl-tron. Or when my pall Ernie didn't come to my retirement party and I constructed an eighty ton SHAME BOT THAT EXPLODED THE ENTIRE DOWNTOWN AREA!" He said and laughed like a maniac.
"Sheesh, I dare to wonder what will happen if him or Lisa met." Luna whispered in fear and Mabel nodded.
Ronnie Anne had similar thoughts, due to Sid being into robotics, she knew her best friend wouldn't go that far, but anything could happen by accident. So she made a mental note not to tell her friend about the old man.
He stopped laughing and said in a regular voice and said," Well, time to get back to work on my death ray!"
He went back inside and construction noises was heard from the inside.
"Say, do any of you kids have a screwdriver?" He asked.
Dipper held the last camera that Lincoln had, and looked at it.
"Well, so much for the photo contest."
Mabel looked at it, and said," Y'know, there's still one roll of film left."
"Whaddaya want to do with it?"
After that all four of them went to find Stan and apologize and they found him with the others and Lincoln, Lori, Leni and Lynn were talking to him.
"And we're sorry." Lori said and rubbed her shoulder.
"Yeah, we are too." Dipper said when they got there, hearing some of what Lori and the others were saying.
"Yeah, we spent the day looking for a "legendary" dinosaur." Mabel said.
"And we realized, the only dinosaur we wanna hang with is right here." Luna said.
Stan rolled his eyes and said," You all save your sympathy! We all had a great time withoutcha'! Catching fish, stealing fish and other things, telling jokes, and we all had a run in with the lake police! Guess I gotta wear this ankle bracelet, which your sister refuses to attempt to take off, so I guess wearing this will be fun." He finished and showed everyone his ankle-bracelet.
"Yeah, we had more fun here than you guys probably did." Lola said with crossed arms.
"So… I guess there isn't room in that boat for nine more?" Lincoln said.
Stan and the others glared at them. But they all put their hats on and their expressions softened.
"You knucklehead's ever seen me thread a hook with my eyes closed?" Grunkle Stan asked.
"Five bucks says you can't do it dude!" Luna said and got in.
"Five more bucks says you can't do it with your eyes closed, plus Luna and me singing at the top of our lungs!" Mabel said.
"Yeah and I can play my guitar as well." Luna added.
"I like those odds!"
Everyone started talking as they got into the boat and took a group photo. It then showed a montage which included Lucas and Lincoln catching their first fish, Lori and Leni gagging when they hold worms that would be put on their hooks, Grunkle Stan and Luan telling jokes with everyone laughing or looking slightly exasperated. Lynn, Lana and Lucy stealing more fish from people. Lana steering the boat with everyone looking on in terror as the Lake Police chased them. Lori and Bobby, after Lori asked Stan to get him, taking a selfie while everyone photobombs them.
It went back to the present with everyone lounging. a rumbling came and gently moved the boat a little but no one seemed to notice except for Dipper.
"Hey, did you guys feel that?" He asked.
"Feel what?" Lynn said, who had her feet dangling on the side of the boat while she fished.
"Never mind." He said and laid down and relaxed.
Unknown to everyone, the real Gobblewonker was swimming underneath and went past the boat.
"Who want's to hear a joke?" Mabel said through a Pelican, using ventriloquism.
"No one does." Lincoln said.
"He, he! Alright, here it goes: Why did the Pelican and the Duck get kicked out of the restaurant?"
"I don't want to know." Dipper groaned.
"Sigh, this is not the kind of torture I like." Lucy sighed.
"It's because they had a very big bill!La-la-la-la! Hyuk, hyuk, hyuk! Bla bla bloo! Yay, horrah!"
The others, minus Soos, groaned.
