Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 - Christmas Gifts

After breakfast inside the Potter family house with Sirius who is currently living with them. They all sat down to open presents and most looked at a certain present in the pile. For they were all curious about what was inside since Angel tended to stare and guess what's inside over the last few days. Hence they were curious on what Felix had gifted Angel to make her like this.

"Why don't you go first dear?" Euphemia said to her daughter.

Angel grabbed Felix gift and ripped it open in a fluid motion. It was clear to all she was excited to see what the gift held. Then her smile grew as a board with a painted Griffin on the bottom appeared.

Picking up a piece of paper that fell towards him, James read it. "How to use the hoverboard."

"A hoverboard?" Fleamont asked as he began to inspect it. "I don't think I heard of such a thing before."

"I heard a few wizards and witches in America were experimenting with something called a skateboard. A board that has wheels on the bottom of them." Euphemia said after a moment. "However, this board doesn't have wheels."

"Wouldn't that be redundant since it's a hoverboard?" Sirius asked. "It flies off the ground after all…supposedly."

"Why do you sound doubtful? I trust Felix's skills since he is gifted when it comes to magic. If he wasn't, why would brother spend all his pocket money on speed reading glasses for Lily." Angel huffed. "Even your brother Regulus bought a pair from him."

James lightly brushed as he suddenly felt his parents teasing smiles. Since they knew about James' crush on Lily Evans, but he didn't know about a talk with him was put on the agenda. It wouldn't do to spend all his money on a gift.

"Speed reading glasses?" Fleamont sounded interested.

Angel nodded then ran off to find the pamphlet for him. There he saw the two items currently for sale and looked surprised. Since neither were something he saw before.

"Quite an invention. I might buy myself a pair as it sounds interesting." Fleamont hummed. "Hard to believe he is a first year student."

"Like I said, he is gifted with magic." Angel said proudly.

"Who doesn't know. You said it many times over the last few days." James sighed loudly.

Angel began to fling spells at him in embarrassment, much to the laughter of others.

Much like Angel, John couldn't wait to open his presents after his grandfather arrived. Naturally the one he opened first was Felix's due to looking at it longer compared to others. Where a board with the Hogwarts logo painted on the bottom with lighting filling in some of the empty space.

"Your friend is talented with a brush." John's father commented.

"He is talented at whatever he puts his mind to. I just wish he wasn't such a busy body since he is very similar to you." John complained. "Maybe worse since he can still get lost at school despite taking the same route nearly daily."

"Then what about the Potter girl?" John's mother asked with a smile.

John thought about it for a moment. "She is a bit talented with magic, but seems to like to watch or ask Felix simple questions; she already knows the answer too."

John shifted his attention to the rest of his presents while ignoring his mother's disappointed look. He knew what she was after, but he wasn't going to give her a chance to tease him. Besides, Angel seems to be lightly crushing on Felix in his eyes.

While most of the teachers seem to have it out for him and quite a few of the student body avoids him for the most part. John felt Felix was a nice guy who was willing to help him with his homework or learning more advanced spells.

"Well, you might want to send a letter to your friend. It seems he was attacked last night." John's grandfather said handing over the newspaper.

Reading the article, John just nodded and went back to opening presents. Since Felix wasn't dead, he could hold off writing a letter since Felix might not even be awake at the moment. So writing one now or in an hour or two won't make much of a difference.

"Aren't you concerned about your friend?" John's brother asked.

"Writing to him now or in a while won't make much of a difference." John replied with a shrug. "Besides, Felix should feel at home in a hospital bed. He enters one more often than most students in the seven years they're at Hogwarts."

"Why don't you write it now and in a while we can go visit him." His father suggested.

"Alright." John sighed and went off to write a letter.

During which he also sent a simple one to Angel since he knew she would be wanting to visit him. So he might as well set a time to meet up with her so he could see his two friends since it's been a few days. Not to mention, he was a bit curious about what was painted on the bottom of her hoverboard, since Felix had a high chance of giving the same gift to both of them.

Inside the Hogwarts Headmaster Office. Albus Dumbledore thought he would have a rare relaxing day for himself. Since among his three positions, nothing really required his attention at the moment. Something he hopes will last for the entire day.

"Book of Love Magic by Felix Grindelwald."

The old man hummed as he cracked open the book with some curiosity. While he is tired of getting books as gifts, very rarely did a student give him a book written by themselves. So he was curious what this student managed to study and write within a few months of joining the wizarding world.

"The dangers of Love Magic." Dumbledore looked a bit surprised.

While there is a little love magic out there, it didn't scream truly dangerous to him. Since in his own opinion, besides those that charm others, it is more defensive in nature. So continuing to read onwards after glancing at the do and don't and warning of love magic. Albus Dumbledore began to doubt his understanding of magic and the power of love.

"I think he is probably the most brilliant student to walk these halls." Dumbledore sighed to himself as he placed the book down. "Tom, you've been replaced."

Following their boss' reactions, all of Felix's professors who received a mark in his black book received a book from him. They all began to doubt their understanding of magic and their own subject. Even if it is just a rewrite of the beginner level textbooks they've been using for years to teach new students. The book written by Felix's made it look like it was written by a child and his was written by one who studied the branch of magic for decades if not a century.

Not only does it go into more in depth studies, but expands and shows various ways to achieve it. Such as potions, magic circles, alchemy and so on. It made them confused and excited which gave them mixed emotions on why he gifted them such books.

"Is it because he doesn't have enough work and is bored?" Professor McGonagall asked herself.

"Fascinating way to prepare potion ingredients." Professor Slughorn nodded. "Maybe, I should invite him to my Slug Club."

"Oh, a new way to cultivate magical plants. If so, it would truly be magical." Professor Sprout smiled at the idea.

Such comments came from the professors as they all spent the morning reading through the book. Some were eager to try some of the magic, while others began to look more in depth at it and wonder if they should publish it for him.

However, a single thought occurred to them. "Should we assign more homework so we can see more of his talent?"
