Chapter 6 - Chapter 6(Bonus chapter)

There was a hole in the ceiling, with smoke surrounding it. I shot the ceiling instead of him. "I'm not going to waste the next bullet," I said aloud with a frown and aimed it at him.

"You're gonna have to shoot me first," Lilly said, stepping in my line of sight. "I can do that," I said, Lilly's face contorted into hate and fear.

Thud!

Crack

Craaack! Thud!

Suddenly, we heard loud banging on the windows that were secured with plywood and planks, and began to increase by the second, Larry was the first to hide behind a shelve, and followed by Doug, Lilly, Glenn, Kenny and his family, Clem was already hiding due to the fight that broke out earlier, Carley had taken a stand behind me, while I had my gun aimed at the weakest point of the makeshift barricade.

Rat-a-tat-tat!

Then we heard a machine gun in the distance. South, I noted. The sound distracted the walkers outside, and they stopped banging on the barricade. "Is that the military?" Carley questioned. I turned around and looked at her. "Stopping letting your gun get snatched, will ya?" I said with a small smile. "Very funny."

I stepped toward Larry, who had started screaming hypocritcals. "We almost died because of this asshole and his itchy trigger finger-" I was halfway there when he grabbed his chest and groaned falling to the ground.

"Dad!" Lilly ran to her dad.

"My pills," Larry said meekly.

'Finally, something that can shut him up,' I thought and walked over to the duo. "What is this? Karma?" I said, looking at her with pity. She's going down with her father. "He needs his pills," Lilly ignored my comment and pleaded.

"Um… Nitroglycerin pills?" Katjaa asked.

Lilly quickly stood up. "Yes. We're out." She said and pointed to the room behind the counter. " We've been trying to get into the pharmacy since we got here! Please, try to get in there!"

I leaned into her ear and whispered. When I backed out she had a face filled with disgust and hatred, "Fuck you," she cursed. I shrugged and backed away from her.

"Everyone else should get comfy and look for anything useful. We could be in here a while," Kenny yelled.

"I'm starting to think the drugstore isn't a permanent solution," Glenn said.

"You're right, this ain't exactly Fort Knox," Kenny said hysterically.

"What do you suggest?" I asked the Chinese kid.

"We need as much gas as possible and get out of downtown Macon. Fast," Glenn suggested.

Kenny, Doug, Carley, and I nodded our heads. "Smart kid," I said with a smile. Hearing it, Glenn smirked with a huff, getting on high horses.

"Then I'll head out and get gas. There's a motel not too far from here, out towards the end of Peachtree. I'll work my way towards it and then loop back, siphoning what I can." Glenn said, shocking everyone with his crazy idea.

"Local?"

"Born and raised," Glenn replied.

"Here," I said, handing him the Walkie-Talkie. "If you get in a tight spot."

"Cool," Glenn said, flipping it side to side.

"Clementine's got the other one. Check in with her and get back in here as soon as you can." I said and looked over at Clementine, who nodded.

Glenn quickly made his way out from the alleyway exit. "And you. What's your name?" Kenny asked the Father/Daughter duo, "It's Lilly. My dad's Larry,"

Kenny nodded his head. "Keep a good eye on him. These boys will work on finding your medicine."

Kenny took the lead, which I had no problem with as long as he wasn't ordering me around. "And you, you keep an eye on that door. You are our lookout," Kenny said to the chubby kid. "Name's Doug." Doug nodded and stood by the door.

"And I'm Carley," Carley said, stepping in front.

"Okay, Carley, you'll shift in with Doug when he needs it. For now, get some rest." Carley nodded her head and went over to one of the counters.

The drugstore had quieted down with Larry sitting up, his chest pain was agonizing but better than before. Lilly was looking at me with a smirk as if she had won something. I shook my head and went over to Clem.

"Hey! You want something to eat?" I asked, looking at her. She nodded, and I pulled some crackers from the bag and handed them to her.

I was leaning on the table next to Clem, who was munching on crackers, and in front of me was Carley, trying to make the radio work. "What are you doing?" I asked her.

She was silent for a few seconds. 'I better not get involved with this guy,' she thought. I kept looking at her, which certainly made her feel awkward. "Fixing it. Well, trying to fix it," Carley said, tapping the radio lightly on the counter.

I took it from her, opened the battery compartment, and found it empty. "Look, it's like your head." I suppressed my lips from curling up, which she noticed, "Asshole," she murmurred.

I handed the radio back to her and went over to my bag, leaving her.

'Too much,' Carley wondered, thinking she had upset me. I opened the bag and retrieved the flashlight I had taken from Clem's house. Opening it, I found two batteries. Satisfied, I closed the bag and walked over to her.

"Look, I'm sorry-" Carley began her apology, which was cut short when I took the radio from her hand. Putting the battery in, I extended the antenna and tuned the dial to connect to a channel that was working.

"You fixed it," Carley exclaimed.

[In the event of a full...uh, my producer is telling me we have to get off the air.]

"Steve," Carley said remorsefully, "You know that guy?" I asked.

"Yeah… we were good friends." She looked down. "Though, if I'm being honest, I did have my eye on his position." She chuckled.

"Now he's wishing he was in yours," I remarked. "And what's that?" Carley asked, finding her situation not better than Steve's. I flicked her forehead with my finger, Ow! "Alive," I said.

She fell silent and giggled slightly. "Yeah, right,"

"Want something to eat?"

"Sure."
