Chapter 39 - CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

Sheila called Martin today; she just wanted to make sure he wouldn't visit her. Justine was just listening to her with a grin, her phone still ringing incessantly.

"Is he still not answering?" Justine asked Sheila.

She just shook her head. She redialed Martin's number. It rang again, but after a few seconds, he answered immediately. He signaled Justine to be quiet.

"Where are you now, hon?" Sheila used her sweet voice.

"Oh, I'm sorry, hon; I'm just busy with work right now, and I couldn't visit. I am sorry for that." Martin said it to her in another line.

"I understand, dear, but I will be quite upset if you do not visit me here." Sheila stated, while her voice was sad.

Justine was trying not to laugh back then.

"Get well soon. I will text you if I go." Martin even said to her.

"Okay, hon, can I ask a favor?" She asked sweetly.

"Yes, what is it?" Martin asked her. "Anything you want, hon." He added.

Sheila just smiled and looked at Justine.

"Hon, can you please give me some money to pay the hospital bills? When I recover, I will also return the money you gave me." She asked Martin sweetly.

"I will pay your bills in the hospital if you'd like to." Martin said.

"Oh no, I'll be the one to pay; the doctor said I should just rest this wound." She also said.

"Maybe the woman who hurt you will come back." Martin's voice is worrying her.

He really believed what she said, even though she had witnessed what happened to her before.

"Oh, I'll rest at our villa; I'll go back there for now."

"I see, okay, how much do you estimate?" He asked her. "I will send it right away." He even said it out loud.

They exchanged glances with Justine. Sheila signaled Justine to be quiet.

"Oh, do you still have any money left?" She's still worried, she said to Martin.

"Yeah, I have." Martin laughed at her. "So how much is it? Do you want a million? I'm happy to provide it to you again, if needed." Martin added.

She needs to hide her joy now.

Sheila, try to maintain your composure with ease. Sheila reminded herself.

"Yes, I needed one million. Don't worry, I will spend it wisely. I also have an investment right now and a business that needs capital. Soon, hon, I will give it back to you." Sheila promised Martin she was listening on the other line.

"You don't need to return it, hon. Spend it wisely. Just checked your account after our call." Martin reminded her.

"Okay, where are you right now?" She couldn't help but ask.

"I need to sleep, hon. Because my colleagues still need me tomorrow, you too need to sleep and rest." Martin ended up saying.

"Yeah, I love you. See you when I get better." Martin said to Sheila.

"Yeah, I love you too. See you, hon."

She immediately hung up the call. Sheila heard Justine laughing at her.

"Sheesh, I'm really impressed with you." Justine just said it to her.

She quickly checked her bank account online. Sheila's eyes widened at what she saw.

"Gosh," she whispered and covered her mouth. "I just requested one million pesos, but look at this." She immediately showed it to Justine.

"Wow, fifty million? The Franciscos are wealthy." Justine could only shake his head.

Sheila gave Justine a big smile. "Come with me to the villa." She even invited Justine.

Justine smiled at her. "You really can't stand without me." Justine couldn't help but say it.

"Of course." She was the one who kissed the man in front of her. "How are we going to spend this?" she whispered to the man she had just kissed.

"It depends on you, Sheila." Justine said it in a whisper. Their kissing only stopped when someone knocked on their door.

The nurse immediately entered to check the wounds on her body; the doctor also instructed her that she would be able to go home tomorrow so she could rest. Sheila just nodded.

Sheila will return to her hometown in San Mateo, where she met her close friend Sharlene back in high school. She will go back there to fix the inheritance she received from his sister.

She might be haunted if she doesn't fix it. She looked at her bruises. She couldn't believe that she did that to herself, so she wanted to vent it on Sharlene; she wanted her to be imprisoned.

But Martin was there, and he provided a clear alibi to the police, so she couldn't even get Sharlene arrested. Sheila also couldn't believe that Martin had cleared that up.

What's happening? Is there something I don't know about the two of them? Sheila wondered to herself.

"Hey," Justine called out to her.

She just looked at him while he was organizing his things. "I need to go. Tomorrow, I'll pick you up." Justine even told her.

"Yeah." That was the only answer she gave, then Justine gave her a passionate kiss and left immediately.

She is alone now in her ward, and besides, she can take care of herself; she can stand and walk now.

A mirror in the bathroom reflected her appearance, still bandaged from the fresh wound she had sustained. Sheila still thinks of the smile of the woman who did this to her.

She found it difficult to accept that a soul so innocent in the world could hurt her. She doesn't know the woman who hurt him.

Have I seen that woman before? She couldn't help but wonder.

Sheila weakly shook her head, returned to her patient bed, and suddenly a nurse entered. She wouldn't complain anymore because it was for her own good.

The nurse quietly goes about her work, checking her blood pressure and wounds to see if they have fully healed. As she kept staring at it for a longer time, the nurse's appearance gradually changed, and she was startled to realize that it was the woman who stabbed her, holding a broken mirror.

The woman smiled at her meaningfully.

How are you? Let's play again. She heard someone whisper to her.

Sheila couldn't speak immediately, her muscles trembling with fear now.

"M-Ma'am, Ma'am." The nurse called her.

Sheila gasped and looked again; the grieving woman was gone. She blinked repeatedly, making sure if this was really what she had seen.

"Are you okay?" The nurse asked her.

She immediately nodded, just swallowed, and shook her head.

I need to rest; I'm seeing all sorts of things. Sheila thought to herself and sighed.

The nurse who assisted her also left; she took a deep breath before closing her eyes to rest again.
