I never expected this to happen. I never expected my entire life to be flipped upside down in one night.
The thing is, once you start learning the truth, there's no going back. And I'm learning that the hard way.
It's been two days since the midnight meeting with Malik, and I still can't shake the feeling that I'm living in two worlds. There's the normal world — school, friends, the awkwardness of being a teenager — and then there's the world that Malik is slowly pulling me into. The world where I'm not just Zariah. I'm a queen.
A reincarnated queen.
I've tried to go through the motions at school, but every time I look around, I feel like I'm watching everything from a distance. Like I don't belong there anymore.
After the meeting, I barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the throne room again. The crown. The memories were starting to flood back, but they weren't complete. It was like they were just out of reach, and every time I reached for them, they slipped away.
That night, I decided to confront Malik. I couldn't go on like this, not knowing what was happening to me.
So I found him after school, standing near the gates of the park, just like before.
"Malik," I said, my voice trembling slightly. "Tell me everything. I can't keep living like this. I need to understand."
He turned toward me, his expression unreadable. "You're not ready to hear everything," he said quietly. "Some truths are too dangerous to know all at once."
But I didn't back down. "I don't care. I need to know the rest."
Malik hesitated, his eyes searching mine for a moment, like he was deciding whether or not to tell me.
Finally, he sighed. "Okay. But you have to promise me that no matter what I say, you won't turn away. This is bigger than you realize."
I nodded, determination flooding my chest. I was ready.
"Your kingdom," he began, "was destroyed centuries ago by an enemy far more powerful than you can imagine. And that enemy is still out there. The only way to stop them is for you to reclaim your crown — but that's only the beginning."
